I know, I know..... you all must be just incredibly disappointed in me..... I wrenched on a TJ. And yes, I allowed it into my garage. I feel so ashamed.....

I guess I was just curious... just some harmless experimentation..... :sad1:

But he paid me to do it!

I couldn't resist doing the cut/weld in TnT outboard shock mounts...... I'm such a bastard.

:D

I feel dirty just looking at this! OK, back to my Ford forums. LOL

That's a touch of class for your garage.:D
Careful...once you weld on a real frame, you never go back... ;)

I guess if nobody got hurt...

It kind of freaked me out to see a bead across the verticle span of the frame. Other places I've read say to not weld vertically across the entire span:nono:. What they do say is to use a few tack welds only, and to weld more on the length of the frame. My work uses diamond shaped (like this: <=>) reinforcing plates just to give more linear weld and distribute any forces acting on the structural member.

However, looking at this finely engineered piece of equipment, and the lack of holes for plug welds, tapers for load distribution, placement on the frame; I wouldn't worry about it. Besides, you're the kind of guy who reads the destructions first. LOL

Hey, TnT says how to do it, and I did just that. Besides, it's not a control arm mount, just a shock mount. Not a whole lot of stress. The reason for the weld across the middle is so that you can secure the top of the bracket without having to remove the body tub to get to the back of the bracket. Otherwise, it's welded everywhere it sectioned into the frame tube.

Sheesh, so seeeeeeennnsitive! Ok, ok, allow me to re-phrase: I did a double take, had to study the pics to understand what was going on, and remember who did the work...which looks nice by the way.

All better???:D

LOL - yeah, I was expecting some critiques..... the pics kinda make it look like it was welded to the outside of the frame - but the frame was actually "C" notched and the piece was placed in the notch.
