Oil Pan

Any tips for separating the oil pan from the block? I'm replacing the rear main seal before we leave for CO fest on Sunday, and I'm stuck at getting the oil pan off of the block. I've got a front skid which gets in the way of getting any tools to the area, and I've already wasted some time trying to get the skid off. I must have been a lot stronger 10 years ago when I put it on. :)

Time is of the essence. I tried to have my mechanic do the rear main seal this week, but he is even lazier than I am. :)

Wood block, piece of 2x4 or the like along the bottom edge of the sump well of the pan. BIG hammer or dead blow and give it a whack - hitting the wood of course.......:D

Checked twice, but I'll look again tomorrow. It's been on there for 18 years, and the oil pan gasket didn't leak.

Now, my question is...... did you ever fix that head gasket?????

Or are we gonna have to pull yer arse over the pass again?

Place the block on the driver's side, direct the blow toward the passenger side. I don't know why it seems to come off that side easier. I was just damn happy to have it off.

Compression tests did not indicate that the head gasket was at fault, however the thermostat when placed in boiling water did not open. New radiator, new fan clutch, and new balanced thermostat were installed. Consecutive runs to South Denver in the last week, the gauge did not move above the thermostat open mark.

The only remaining issues are a really bad rear main seal, and the fact that it drives so much better without the front drive shaft.

From Buena Vista, I can strap it back with the MJ. :)

After working on it for a few hours, Led came by and gave it a little more oomph than I had available. Now it's all back together except for the bolt furthest toward the front on the passenger side.

What a massive pan in the ass this job has been. I got to get a garage with a lift.
