oil light comes on and off as i stop

The Pure 1's I have from the "rebate" deal are now going in the trash. Bosch D+ appear to be quality products. Agree on Wix and Napa (made by Wix). Baldwin has good reviews on Bob is the Oil Guy, as does K@N and Mobil 1.

Below is from the Wells website. The numbers published are OE range for idiot light equipped, no factory gauges. I doubt you are below 7PSI, even though I'm not a fan of thin oil in hot climate. I would swap out the oil pressure switch

PS296 1/8-27 NPTF Dryseal Normally closed - Opens 3-7 PSI

The higher dollar filters like the Napa Gold and Platinum versus the Napa Silver are intended for extended oil change intervals, as are the K&N etc. If you change your oil regularly, a Napa Silver or Mopar will certainly fit the bill.

Change the oil filter to a quality one and see what happens.

My 87 has 111K miles on it, and is running at 28 psi hot oil at idle. Somethings off on yours. Can the builder supply bearing clearances on the crank and camshaft? They effect
oil pressure.

ill replace the fram. I have had a fram on it since i got the motor and this just happened recently. The motor came from autozone, before you start bashing it it has a a 3 yr no mileage cap and was only 1400 dollars for the long block.

I have hooked up a mechanical gauge. that is what i am reading the psi off of. My jeep has all idiot lights from factory and i have put in mechanical gauges for oil psi finally, water temp, and voltage.

Frams are known to disintegrate internally and allow the filter media to restrict flow.

AJ: I am running Rotella T 15-40, and yea it was over 100 today.
There is an engineer on "Bob is the oil" guy" that uses Rotella 10-30 in his Duramax diesel. Has done used oil analysis etc and proves it holds up extremely well in HIS engine. So, I don't really think I need 15-40, but it was on sale at BJ's and it has a good additive pack. The owner's manual
of my 87 specs 10-30, 10-40, 20-40 and 20-50 for above 30F! The 4.0
is not a fussy engine oil wise. Get a GOOD filter and a name brand oil on sale and you will be fine.

I have to wait till the weekend to swap the filter. I have penzoil and have always used that even on my 87, 91, 88 xjs with no issues. So i dont see it being that at all. although on my 87 and 88 i ran 20-40, but they both had over 190k on them.

But from what i have been looking at even at 15psi at idle i should be fine. but either way i will swap the filter

The filter could be a big deal. Please report back the results of changing it.

When the temps are hot in the Summer, oil with more film-strength is good for the 4.0 Jeep engine. Here is my best idea yet to cure that oil light issue. Change the oil, drop the Orange filter, and install the higher capacity Wix 51515 filter. Then, since you like the quality of Penzoil, (and it is very good), put the 20w50 Penzoil in this time. It will fix the issue, and protect your investment.

Ok also how many quarts should the 4.0 take. my 87 took about a big jug and a qt. for some weird reason i am having to get a jug and 3 qts for this one. and then it will read at the full line on the dipstick. Makes no sense to me.

6 quarts with the filter. If it helps AJ, I just measured my 87 dipstick and it is 23" on the
part that goes into the tube(not counting the handle). What kind of filter did you get?

6 quarts of Rotella 15w40 and a Wix or Napa Gold filter. They go together like peas and carrots.
