I'd say thats pretty accurate. I have no experience with Swampers but that's because I've been told constantly that they have terrible on-road manners, and I've always been a drive to the trail type.
I've had both, compared to my subaru they both suck on road. They are both loud, swampers more so when tread is waning. Never really have road walk, no balancing issues, or any real complaints for on road use. Off road is a slightly different story. The swampers kinda sucked in mud surprisingly, again probably do to waning tread. But there are videos of my spinning all 4 tires and not moving and inch. The mtrs have a better all round tread pattern in my opinion. Aired down they work great in loose terrain like sand and mud. No real experience with rocks or anything yet with my mtrs, but im sure they will fair well.
I guess it all boils down to what your going to use the tire for. All around the mtrs is probably going to net the best performance. But if you want to sling loads of mud, rocks, water, or what ever else and make a big mess the lbt does that well. The mtrs get my vote.
Patrick, with you mostly trailer your rig I'd go with SWAMPERS!!! They are way better for the trails we do. Aired down you can't beat them on most Texas and Moab type trails. When in places like Moab not a big deal for the little bit of roads we do. I've NEVER heard complaints about swampers on trail rigs. Yes some complaints on road both handling and wear quickly. On a trail rig I'd go with sticky over quiet ride All that said MT/R are good tires and the only MT's I've ever run. I need 35's and keeping an eye out for either!!!
I loved my LTBs, after running them I couldn't see going back to radial tires. If you want tall and narrow it is hard to beat the LTB, but if you want a little wider tire look at the TSL SX.
Lol nice, gonna build a 23 hours of LeMons car. 258 6 (basically a carburetor on a 4.0) with an automatic :-(. Gonna get it going the way it is. We have a manual transmission in storage, but swapping it in would cost money and now we want to get it on the street/track the way it sits. Eventually gonna put a 360 (or 401 if we can find one) out of a full size Cherokee or Gladiator. But right now completely stripping the interior and getting suspension and brakes in order. I really enjoy working on something that is all sae.
Susan and I will drive to San Antonio next week for Christmas and the leave Friday or sat for Big Bend and New Mexico until after the new Year. Remote camping so taking jeep and off road trailer
