Off road toy, what lift?

In contrast, I have run 35's on my Dana 35 for about 5 months now. I've lost one U-Joint during road driving, but it was unrelated.

Sure it's not strong, and I don't recommend it, but it can get you by. I have NEVER babied mine and it holds up just fine on the hill climbs and mud. With stock gearing and no locker, you're losing a lot of power to the wheels, and it gives the little guy a chance.

If you can, get a Chrysler 8.25 97+ and save yourself the trouble.

on my old xj i had 8.5in (short arm.. yes it can be done haha) and running 36s i did the 8.8 swap bought the perchs ubolts ect... from M.O.R.E. if u do the 8.8 i think 97 and up had disk brakes. but back to lift. i live in south florida so flex was not what i was looking for, big lift and big tires bc we love mud haha. my lift was roughcountry 6.5 with 2 inch spacers. i hated it. i thought rustys was the way to go but iv been hearing some bad things..

That's the kinda feed back I am looking for! Thanks! Here in Co. I am looking for lots of flex and lots of ground clearance. And lots of skids (most of them will be home made.)

Flex with stock arms and 4.5" RE coils

Flex with 5.5" Deaver coils and long arms, little bit too much cuz I totally unloaded that tire...:D

You don't need a sky high lift for articulation and with an XJ you don't need it for clearance. Mine sits about as tall as our minivan but the ground clearance under the sills and underbody is huge. Your axles will of course always be the lowest point, so worry more about trimming and tires than about lifting it way up there.

what width are your 33's? I have the 35X12.50's off the wife's truck (it died) so thats why i am kinda building around. I also will be doing rock stuff so under belly clearance is a big deal. My brother in-law has/had a K5 on 38's and a monster lift (about 8-12in) and that even sometimes hit the belly, thats kinda what i am getting ideas off of, thats why I started thinking about an 8in (or so) so far yall have convinced me that more along the lines of 6.5ish is where I want to go. A buddy of mine has the Rubicon somethin or other (5.5) and said he wished he went taller, and has added (dont know what) another 3-4. so thats again why I said along 8ish. What yall have said is understable as it is basic physics (sp?) that with our running gear less lift is better. so me thinks a 6.5 LA is the ticket. Then if I want to go up i can in the future (like when I trash/swap the axels). Now i have to decide on what brand, so what yall recomend? BTW I have been using the search so dont ask lol.

Didja search? ;)

Put some sliders on, a belly skid, tcase skid, engine skid, and gas tank skid on, and don't worry so much about smacking your underbelly. I've been all over with mine and rarely hit the underside, although I have beaten about 3 gallons out of my gas tank capacity...:D

In the shot with the long arms, that's with Rock Krawler's 3 link. It does real good and is super beefy. T&T or Clayton's would give better overall clearance, but I've only hit my arms/mounts a couple times and they've never hung me up.

Hmmmmm. I'm considering selling my XJ for around 5k. It's already got 35's 4.88's rear 8.8, selectables, Rock Krawler 3 link, steering etc.

It's ok, he had his cowboy boots on, he was well prepared.

EDIT: Also, dannaw, my tires are 33x12.50. You'll want to run close to a 4" backspacing to clear the control arms when turning.

Unsafe at all of 3 mph? I don't know bout you, but I walk faster than that.

I'm not going to argue with you about how unsafe it is to ride on the hood. Anything can happen at any speed. If you don't realize that, there's nothing more I can say to you. Posting pictures that reflect unsafe activies on a public forum is irresponsible.

In addition, I caught your post before your edit. So everyone can see what you deleted. Sorry for you.

I guess I'll just go hang my head and say d'oh, the mean man on the interwebs has bested me. :(

Your statement is patently untrue.
For example the jeep can not leap into the air and begin doing a waltz at any speed.

The jeep can not disassemble itself with a pair of vise grips at 3mph.

The jeep can not transform into a robot at 7.5mph

And being an internet nanny is apparently possible for you at any speed. Feel better mom?

I do SON. Thank you for those realistic examples. Now go grab your Teddy Graham's its time for bed.

My Jeep must be doing at least 8.3 to have enough momentum to transform.

To the original dude,

Go hang out with your local chapter for a little while. Drive a couple easy trails. Ride as a passenger on some harder stuff. See what works. See if you like rock crawling.

Then, buy stuff.
