Hello, I just removed the oem trailer hitch from my 98 sport because it was rusting from the inside. The hitch I replaced it with is a Curt for cherokees. Now I have the big round 7 pin connector hanging there and no place to mount it. There is a connector that can seperate the 7 pin to remove it. Does anyone know if there is a adaptor that would plug into that connector to make it a 4 pin. I do not need the 7 pin and would like just to have a 4 pin being it is much smaller. Thanks for any advice.

Yes, there is a 7-pin to 4-pin adapter. You can get them pretty much anywhere that sells that stuff. Even wal-mart.

i think what he is asking is: is there a trailer 4 pin connector to REPLACE his 7 pole connector as his new hitch does not have the mounting box on it.

not that i know of. you could re-route the wires to come out from under the trim pannel in the cargo area and pull the connector out when you need it. if you do that, be sure to support it by tying it off with a string or tie wire to take the weight of the connector assemblies.

Correct Stewie. So this is my plan now that I can not find anything. I will just leave the 7 pin and plug in the 4 pin adaptor and hide it somewhere in the bumper with zip ties. Than I will take a 4 pin extension and run it out to the hitch with zip ties. It is crude but at least it will leave everything intact without cutting and splicing and will look good. My other idea would be to fabricate bracket for the 7 pin and mount it to the bumper.

if you want to you could drill a hole in your bumper for the body of the plug to pass thru and then attatch with 4 self tapping screws. its a clean nearly flush install
