I am pretty sure it was only an option in the limited wagoneer too. The one I pulled was from a '85 ltd. Never ended up hooking it up, left it in my '94 when it sold.

I am like Kingfish. I have an '01 Limited with power everything under-the-sun but no cruise. Who orders (In fact who builds) a vehicle with every option available and no cruise?

Same with my 99 XJ Sport with Painted Flares......hahaha Mine also has auto lights that stay on for about 30 seconds after you shut it off but only if you turn the lights off after you shut the engine off.

I'd be surprised to find that it's not a design feature - that's a pretty commonly-found feature a lot of owners like to mention but it's not part of any known package to the best of my knowledge.

It's part of the light group package on my 97. Included are rear door pin and liftgate switches, switchable rear cargo area light, under dash entry lights by the kick panels & and an under hood light as well as the headlamp shutoff delay.

Yeah I think it was pretty common. Even my old '87 has that exact same stuff. My light delay runs a little long, maybe just over a minute. I use it to get the trash can down the 100' walk to the street on garbage night, then they go out and I find my way back in the dark.

I found one in a junk yard the ather day with the extended idle and 115 mph certified speedo as well as rubber floor. I pulled it all out just in case I need it some time for bartering stuff.

I found out that I have an extra 8 gallon fuel cell along with the 20 gallon, anyone here of this before. I also have a customer package 2TE and 26E??? I found out by calling 1 800 992 1997. Scott.

And extra tank certainly does seem odd.
My 87 MJ is a bit of an odd duck.
87 Pioneer 4.0 4x4 5spd
Bucket seats, full console, full guages.
23.5 Ga tank
Sunroof (appears factory, uses those wierd reverse torx screws)
No air
No power anything, rubber floor

On a side note... I heard from a dealer once that the government gets alot of the export model vechicles. I guess they're cheaper... Thats why you see them with the e-brake set ups on the kicker panel and what not. I'm a big CJ guy and one of the books that I have tells about all the various models of Willys CJ's that were built for export use only. One built forSouth America is identical to a US model only that it had a 2 piece windshield and the body has steps built into it rather then the ones that bolt on to the frame like the US models.

Second, my 1990 XJ is a rare one too . When I got it, it was a base model with absolutely nothing... No power locks, windows, or seats. Am-fm radio. No fog lights. Dummy light guages. No lights in the kick panel. No rear cargo light. No clock. No headlight delay. What was odd about it was it has a full console, rear defroster, rear wiper and A/C !... and for some reason the nicer vinyl and cloth seats. Well the passenger and back one at least. I figured the rear defrost and wiper was an option. But the seats still stump me. The drivers seat was replaced with an older one... Looks like from an 89 Lerado with the hole in the head rest... I eventually found the right on in the junk yard. Now I need to replace it again, they seem to be hard to find for some reason. Then I found an overhead console in the junkyard. Took me 2 days to rip the whole harness out with everything, including the temperature sensor. Went to put in in my XJ and the harness was already there. All I really needed was the harness from the module down the post to the kick panel where it plugs in there and plug the temperature sensor into the already existing harness in the grill. Kept the rest of it anyway cause at the time I planned on getting a MJ to use it in. If anyone needs it let me know and I'll see if i can dig it out. Its got some extra goodies attached to it too !

Not only i had no idea that that was even made for the xj, it is prob. one of the coolest options. Pretty retro...........

They were pretty common the XJ Wagoneers thats I've seen... I've always wondered if they can be hooked up to any ECU with the added sensors or what ever they use... If anyone has and info on this please PM me.

i have a question about my jeep it seems to be a base model (1990) with like three options: cruise, defroster and variable speed wipers. anyway i happened upon a lift gate (year unknown it was in the yard of a vacant house next door) i got the wiper motor out of it and brought the gate to a salvage yard. anyway when i put the motor in my cherokee i realized crap i forgot the relay however when i pulled the trim off my liftgate (which by was 'professionally' duct taped on by last guy who had it) the relay was there also there was wiper fluid hose and all the wiring was there. when i pulled the dash the wiring for the switch was there and the tranny switch which seemed odd because i have a 5speed. am i just making incorrect asssumptions about the wiring or is this how all cherokees came straight from the factory uneeded harnesses and all ps i need the rear wiper switch.....

I noticed the same on my 90 XJ too. Like I said about the overhead console, the same thing with fog lights. The switch wasn't there. I just got the bezel that had the fog light symbol on it and the switch, but the wiring was there and the relay was in the headlight harness... I did have to pull the rest of the harness out of a XJ at the junk yard. I was missing the too wires that come out of the plug that go to the 2 foglights. If you have a 2.5 engine, my mitchell book from what the wiring diagrams show, only indicate that there was 1 wiring harness made for that year. The 4.0 on the other had has a few variations depending on options.

I wish I had the intermitent wipers... it sucks in the rain ! That and cruise control are my next 2 things to add...

Mine is a weird one too.
1989 Laredo.

-Many speed front wipers
-Light package(front light delay, kick panel lights, etc)
-no fogs
-no tint windows
-full cluster
-clock
-Sunroof
-NP242
-Auto
-running boards
-grey vynil/cloth sportier seats(the one with the wrap around rear, and whole in the head rest)
-tilt steering
-Power tranny

Sorry to revive an old post. Our FD has two '94 XJ's and they are slightly different. Both have vinyl flooring, column shifting and A/C. Extended idles, heavy duty packages and front tow hooks. Is there somewhere I could look to find one of these? I haven't been able to find one and I am really waiting to get one of these-after all FD and PD vehicles get one of the best maintenance schedules around. In fact the two of them have different wheel packages, AM/FM radios only and no rear wipers, but I believe they both have cruise. I will put a posting in the wanted section of this forum to see if I could locate one.

Police and govt auctions. what you described is the police edition XJs. Beware though, many of them have had a rough life and been driven VERY hard.

Is this from personal experience??

Get this....

My jeep is missing CUPHOLDERS!!!

Why the hell didn't they come with cupholders?

(actually when I bought it it did have the over the e-brake cup holders... needless to say, I took that out right away!)

Edited to add: This was my 100th post! Wohoo!

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD what year did they start putting cupholders in cars?
i cant think of any car older than 1990 that ive ridden that had cupholders.

my xj has plastic rings that wedge in nicely between the seats, half console, and e-brake
lever with one can size and one gatoraide size. one even has a brick of styrofoam under it to keep the drinks cool. (hot floorboards). if this sounds ghetto please feel free to design good non-console xj cupholders so i can buy them. thank you.
