Who makes a decent easy to shoot OD military paint. It's coming time to paint the TJ, new nose sheetmetal just came in. Changing it from teal to OD flat and probably camo.

Krylon makes an ultra-flat OD paint that is very good....we use it on our HUMVEE's alot. They make about 10 different ultra-flat colors for different type's of camouflage jobs.

Does krylon sell it in quart cans that I can mix up and put in a gun ??? I have to paint inside them also, this is all new sheetmetal with factory primer.

no it only comes in 12 oz. spray cans.....real good paint though, looks great and dries in about 15 minutes

Actually, Krylon does come in small paint cans so that it can be brushed or sprayed on with your own sprayer. Up here in Canada, I've always had to special order it, but you might be able to find it off the shelf in the US. Here's a link to their camoflage paints. Their website has a dealer locator too.

Well, we'll see what they say, emailed them, the brush on looks good but I need to cut it so I need to know what thinners will work. Be using a plain old high pressure gun, don't have one of those new low pressure ones... I think monday I'll head to the local auto body parts store and look at some chips and get some prices.

You'll probably save some money that way, I paid about $25 US per quart for the Krylon, although I agree with hoytinak that its very good paint. Its really durable and doesn't fade much at all.

I've used both Krylon and Rustoleum camo paints on my TJ. Both have been pretty durable. More importantly, they are easy to touch up when dirt meets paint. I was initially going to do mine camo, but haven't figured out a pattern I liked. So I just did the sheetmetal in khaki, and all the plastic trim stuff and softtop in OD. It turned out really well. I wet sanded the entire vehicle, and then cleaned it and sprayed it with rattle cans as I couldn't find it in bulk cans. Most people don't believe it was done with spray bombs. Still working on a pattern for the camo, hopefully this summer. By the way, the interior plastic and the softop(at least my early TJ style) take the paint very well.

Gillespie Coatings...it's the prefered paint of restorers of Military Vehicles.

Check out my old boss's place....www.armyjeepparts.com. IIRC it's $50 something a gallon for any shade you decide. Get's a bit expensive when you add the UPS and HAZMAT fees.

If you decide to go the Gillespie route let me know, i can pick it up and meet you up by Cabela's or something. I have parts to get at County next week.

My XJ will be getting the early WWII flat OD and cleared over that.

I was initially going to do mine camo, but haven't figured out a pattern I liked. Still working on a pattern for the camo, hopefully this summer.

rich, if i worked at the paint shop i'd try to snaggle ya some, but unfortunately we never carry that much here at the hangar, just enuf to spray small stuff (spray can type stuff) to decals and marking stuff.

Thanks for the offer but that real carc stuff is nothing to fool around with, saw them paint them down at a paint facility in NJ, brought back visions of The andromeda strain with self contained biohaz suits and even with that the painters were only allowed to shoot the stuff for 8 houra a month. It's toxic levels I was told are very high.
