Friday Eric, Ben, Darren, and myself met up in Woodland after work.
Eric broke the self check out.
We had to wait on, Darren.
On the road.
We got to the Campground a little before 9:00, and actually made decent time up there. Ben was told to make a fire.
We enjoyed a few beverages around the campfire.
Told some stories.
Some of us chose to sleep by the fire.
Saturday Branden and Joe showed up around 0900. We got our gear together and prepared to hit the trails.
We rallied down the road to start on the 196. That's when Ben discovered his alternator was failing. Good thing TORX brought a spare for him.
We all stood around and watched Ben do maintenance on his POS for awhile. After he got the alternator installed he discovered the horrible noise he'd been hearing was his transmission falling off. No big deal.
At this point it was clear Ben should have gone to TSF instead.
Branden sunk the Cherocon like a boss. This was on his way out, and those are 37's.
We all cruised right up the 196 rock face, and made good time into the 197. This was one of many tight turns. Shoot high and pray you can stick the line.
From there we got on the 198 trail. I attempted an optional line that was not 33" approved. Had to commit to it, so I winched up. Branden walked it, and then Joe slowly clawed his way up. Good times.
From there we made our way up the upper 520. That's when I tried to kill Eric, and barrel roll down the hill side. Luckily, we were with a solid group who were quick to get a cable on us. From there I was able to winch myself back onto solid ground.
Continued up the 520.
Ben tried following Branden, that's when we all heard a "pop". Ben played it off though.
Once we got to the top, Ben discovered he broke an axle u-joint. So we made our way back to camp, and he grabbed an open seat with Joe. Evans Creek 1, Quad Trails 0.
We all headed down to start the 102. That's when Joe discovered he had lost a cap on a front axle u-joint. So he and Ben limped it back to camp, while Branden, Darren and I continued up the 102.
A few minutes later we finished the trail, and headed for the Fish Bowl to play around.
Branden dropping off the ledge. It's a good six foot vertical drop located on an already steep hill side.
After the Cherocon walked it we rallied up the 198 and then down the lower 520. I think we were back at camp around 3:00. We covered a good amount of ground in a short while, which was very nice for a change.
When we got back to camp the rain really started to pick up. Branden offered up his place for the night to crash at. We weighed our options, and took him up on the offer. So we broke down camp in a monsoon, and headed out.
Got a bite to eat at the Bootlegger. Ben ate the Bootlegger Burger, and a Classic Cheeseburger.
From there we went to Branden's to party for the night.
Rich tried to kill me with Svedka.
Sunday we ate BPBcakes, and drove home.
Fun trip! Thanks to Branden for the hospitality, we will repay the favor next time you guys are down this way. Joe good wheeling with you again!
I always enjoy Evans, and am already looking forward to getting back up there. Any takers on a trip up before it closes Dec15 for the winter?
