Occupy Wall Street

On a related note, is this why George Soros met behind closed doors with the NYPD last week? Wonder what they talked about?
their fantasy football teams. The Giants suck.

Wow. you actually posted something that I agree with.:sunshine:

So, which piece of fiction do you agree with the most? Or do you agree equally with all of the fictional pieces of this so-called Congressional Reform Act?

One glance and I knew most of the the information in the "reform act" was bogus. While I may have a perspective that provides some insight, it still takes little effort by the average person to get at the truth:

Back to occupy wall street, I herd they are selling tshirts now with their slogans on them. Maybe someone should point out to them by selling tshirts they are profiting and instead they should all be bartering with each other since they have so much to offer the world.

Seems the police are selective on when to enforce laws. They have no problem busting up OWS encampments in front of a bank at 0200, but will not roust & arrest homeless committing the same crimes one street over along side a printing company.

Doesn't really shed a positive light on the police force. Actually it makes them appear to be paid mercs for corporate greed.
counterpoint: the homeless people sleeping on the street, while they do create a small sanitation problem, they do not actively block the city sanitation workers from doing their jobs.
The Occupy Oakland protesters are creating a large sanitation problem, and won't move to let the sanitation people clean up the mess they're making. Seems like with very little effort, they could have all moved out of 1/2 the area and let the city workers do their jobs, then moved into the freshly cleaned area and let them clean the rest of the park.
Something similar was proposed in NY(except in 3rds)and the protesters refused to move out there either.

The occupy(X) protesters have been pushing confrontation, knowing that eventually there would be an excuse to riot. That's what they want, and that's what they got in Oakland. Atlanta is probably next.

Fair enough. Bring in some porta potties would go a long way.

Tom, you're supposed to let it marinate for a few days.......spoil sport.

OWS is responsible for this.

Cities have ordinances that require special event organizers to pay for the placement and servicing of public restroom facilities to accommodate the waste needs of the event attendees.

I've found this requirement to be included in any event permit approval process.

If the organizers aren't in compliance, then the city/county will act on shutting the event down.

I think the whole lot of them is a good idea.
I also realize that our current congress would NEVER let this pass. Good ideas are often just dreams.

Well, that kind of assumes the "organization" applied for and received a permit.

While it can be argued that a political protest can't be required to get a permit("Sorry, permit denied,.. You can't have a protest rally here.) They can be required to account for the health and safety of the participants, be held responsible for damage to private property, etc. (Yes, you're marching, yes, you have a message, NO, you can not burn that building down.)

Some of my recent OWS observations and musings……

OWS is being sold as a movement that represents “99%” of Americans. The current US population is just over 312 Million, so why are there only a couple of thousand folks protesting?

I see interviews with and blog postings by students who claim that a college degree is a human right and they want the banks to forgive their student loans because they’ve spent 4-8 years in college to earn a degree and post-graduation they don’t have a job or have not been able to secure a job yet that will allow them to live the lifestyle that they thought their degree of choice would bring them.

I’m positive that these individuals chose to attend college, chose to sign a contract for a loan to fund their education, chose the degree field to pursue, and if they were intelligent enough to be accepted into an institution of higher education, they made a conscious effort to select a field that would allow them to secure post-graduate employment that would pay enough for them to fulfill their financial obligations and pursue the lifestyle they desired.

Many of these same students who are speaking out against capitalism and the wealthy, fail to recognize that most of the very campus buildings where they met to received their higher education are in existence, because of the philanthropic contributions of the wealthy in their communities who donate hundreds of thousands and often millions of dollars to give back to their university of choice.

Because, it is a Representation and not the actual 1% of america, there is a key difference. If a fire fighter stands up and is representing his fellow fire fighters, he is a representation and obviously not All of the fire fighters.

Those are the 3 longest sentences in history :rtm: .

Seriously? Maybe because it's a sample (a skewed one at that), or maybe because most poor folks have to work. Sweet lord, you're so out of your depth it's not even funny.

You see only what YOU want to see. I summed-up the education angle quite nicely in the 80th Post. You probably didn't see it because you put me on your ignore list. Ironic isn't it?

Because most of us are working or asleep at the switch.

My little world

So you want me to buy that the .0016% (5000-ish) Americans in the streets are representing 308,880,000 Americans who allegedly share their same views?

No sale.......

they represent us almost as well as the 534 people in washington presently serving their own interests :smsoap:

(I gave Ron Paul, Rand Paul, and Dennis Kucinich* a pass on that, the rest of the senate/house and VP+P not so much)

* I may not agree with him at all but at least the man speaks his mind and stands for his beliefs. Unless he's voted for some pork I missed at some point.
