Has anyone done research on NY laws I don't understand why snowmobils can use trails but we can't

I have been told its mostly due to the amount of damage by tires done to trails where snowmobiles have the snow to protect the ground.

Some places i have been i have seen signs no motorized vehicles unless trail covered by snow.

You may want to get more specific. Land use depends on who owns it and it's intended use. Winter use of any motorized vehicle is prefered by most DNRs as the most desirable because their use does not leave ruts or damage vegetation.

In general, snowmobile Routes, are not trails, but are OK'd for snowmobile trafic. Snowmobile Trails were designed as primarily for snowmobile trafic, but are often designated for another use off season. The reason for closing a snowmobile Trail to non-snowmobile trafic is because tires mess up the snow base.

I have talked to d.e.c. officers what they say is we have to talk to are state senators and press for opening land for our clubs. There are alot of groups out there that have people who are fighting to keep us out of state land and trails.Just keep on fighting for uor rights!
