NWFest 09

My intention was the following:
1. Put a list of trails together by difficulty.
2. Put a tentative schedule of the trails by day (several trails per day of various difficulty).
3. Then let people sign up for leading specific trails.
4. Some trails will be limited to 8 - 10 rigs, others won't have the same limit (the more difficult the trail the less rigs).

There are several reasons for doing it this way.
1. I want people to have input into what trails are available.
2. I want people to have an idea of what trails they would like to run each day.
3. I want trail leaders to be able to schedule their planed run's around what is available.

I hope to have a list of trails ready for editing soon.
Once it is edited I will put a shedule up for input.
Once the schedule is decided upon I will get trail leaders for each trail/day.

Michael, just a thought...when you make the list, it might be nice to define what exactly the easy, medium, and hard trails include. Maybe what the typical vehicle would look like for that (lockers, tires, lift, armor, etc.), and what the drive capabilities should be/experience (maybe run comparison examples from other wheeling spots like 311 at Evans and sac-up at Reiter would be similar so if you can do those you can probably do this, so people know better who haven't wheeled there), and trail damage that is to be expected/accepted (Example: "OK/accepting with broken glass, dents, scratched." Or "Daily driver, wants to prevent all damage possible, not prepared for body damage").

For example, I would consider myself and my rig capable of medium difficulty trails. Reason for that mainly being, I went on the first easy trail run at the PNWJeep M&G, and I felt I wasted trail time...it was that easy (dirt roads basically), and I knew I could run a majority of popular trails there with a tug here and there from going there a week prior. Most of the rigs on that run (with shotmobile ZJ leading) were stockers or people who had never been off road, so it tells me there is an easy "trail" rating, then just easy.

Just a little $0.02

Here is a GREAT source for trail difficulty along a short write w/ maps and GPS data

Naches is under "Manastash Ridge/ Kaner Flat"

Han's,
It's already in the works! There will be something for everyone ;)

Scott,
There will be reasonable descriptions of trails, and a variety for everything from Stock to Buggy.

What is this "HTH"?

:dunno:

Thanks for the map links. Just a little thought for people who have this as their first NWFest, I know if it was mine I would have appreciated it.

Good to know, thanks! (it'll probably be my first time driving on Naches trails)

P.S. Thanks for the map links. Just a little thought for people who have this as their first NWFest, I know if it was mine I would have appreciated it.

HTH = Hope That Helps

I appreciate the input Scott.

So here's what we are looking at so far.

Trail coordinator - Michael

Trail leaders - Michael, Matt and Hans. We need more folks here. I've only been to Naches once, so if anyone wants to step up please do.

Tech inspectors - Michael, Jeremy, Alex, Ryan, Hans, and Eli. If we inspect as they come in, or something similar then a couple of guys should be able to handle it. If we wait until a certain time, then the more the merrier.

Dinner - John wins that one.

Welcome wagon - Rod, Eli and Rich. I'm thinking the welcome wagon could handle liability waivers and registration.

The_Big_E (Eric) brought up, and volunteered to coordinate any first aid needs that may arise. So any brain surgeons or trauma docs get a hold of him if you are willing to do any trail side human repair.

I'm working on raffle prizes, so if anyone has a line on prizes let me know.

Only 163 days to go...

I'm cool with that.

In addition, I am current on all my first aid crap so I can lend a hand with any trail side human repair.

I can get my dad to make up a huge first aid kit with everything in a ER trauma room, if the Wang and Sean show up we will be set.

Also for some prizes from Master-Pull you can contact me closer on to the spring. ;)

And can I be put down to inspect winchlines only? :D

A couple of updates on my end.
1. Final list of organized trails is being Pre-Inspected as we speak. Expect the entire list up before the end of this week, with most of the detail including start times for each trip and requirements. There is a total of about 12 formal trail rides over the 3 days (Fri-Sun).

2. I planned no formal trail rides on Thursday (people showing up). Friday there will be several trail rides planned starting late morning so people could still show up Friday morning and make a trail ride if they are early enough. The EPIC trail ride will start EARLY Friday morning for the lucky few who get to be involved (this will be a very limited group, and will be the trail ride that all future NW Fest trail rides will be compared with party1:). Saturday rides will start reasonably early so that none of the groups miss John's fabulous dinner this year :shhh:. Sunday there will be several short run's for those who want to wheel all weekend.

3. I assumed that I would not let people sign up for trails till they have arrived at camp and have been through inspection (also provides some motivation to get inspected). As a side note, I don't think you want more than a few people responsible for tech, and probably don't need more than a few.

3. With 12 trail rides I will need 12 trail leaders (some might offer to do more than 1). I want to get the trail list up and formal ASAP so that I can get trail leaders assigned to each trail ride. I expect trail leaders to be prepared with maps, and exceptional trail skills with regard to communication, repair, recovery, etc. I will go through this with each trail leader as they sign up for particular trails.

4. I know that several of us have complete Trauma Kits in our Jeep's. For anyone who doesn't it is a good idea to consider at the minimum a VERY good first aid kit. I would think we want at least 1 Trauma kit in each group on the trail at a minimum.

I know you can't inspect coolant systems or rear leaf springs ;)
In the process of putting the trail list together I re-evaluated how long each trail should take and with the help of some old research data I found that what should have taken at a maximum of 3hrs(good conservative estimate) took us 6hrs (plus missing an incredible dinner and raffle:rattle:). :peace:
