Been wanting to try these.....
We shall see how they work out!
(Metalcloak 'true dual rate' coil springs)

They sure look cool

Work on my 242. Should be... Overkill :D

What lift amount are those intended for?

I saw a pick of an XJ this morning with coil overs. I really want to try those someday ... never had a rig with them.

They are somewhere between 5.5" and 6" for a tj
So I'm anticipating ~4.5" on the Xj
I'm putting them under jks acos so I can level the jeep. I hate too much rake, or the front sky high so it will be nice to be able to keep things level

So I'm just spit balling here, maybe I'm crazy, but I had a thought the other day and wanted to see what some of you thought....

If I were to do this, it wouldn't be till this winter, maybe even early spring. I have to recoupe some money before I do much else.

Anyway, to the point. My idea-
Since I ended up with this Isuzu rear 44, which I'm happy with (it will do its intended job, maybe for a long time) I've been looking for chromo shafts and talking with Darrel about the strength of these things.... (I'm also not super excited about the 2" wheel spacers to match the front width either)
Darrell says he runs some big wheel spacers on his diesel DD hauling scrap and such and he doesn't think they will be an issue on the Xj, so while that made me feel better, I'm still not excited about them.

Next issue is the shafts, it looks like thanks to the weird design of the brakes, and weird parking brake no one makes shafts. I'm still not 100% sure how much different these are than a 'normal' 44 but I think (custom) Dutchman may be my only, or at least easiest option.

And among a few other small quirks I don't like, or would like to change, I want to add a full case locker (more than likely another arb)

So this got me to thinking....
Dana 44, with 60 outers!
I could change the width so I wouldn't need the spacers, run 35 spline Dana 60 full float shafts, simple disc brakes, easy way to get the 6 on 5.5 bp, and use a 35 spline arb.

I don't want to give up any more clearance, so unless I went with say a rock jock ($$$$) I really don't want to run a 60 center in the rear, and honestly I don't think I need a 60 center. This route should in theory be cheaper than building another axle from scratch, and it would solve every single issue I see with my current axle/setup...

So am I nuts? Is this worth looking into more seriously?
I think I'm gonna run it by Darrell this weekend and see what he thinks. I'm sure he's built some of these before....

Yeah, a shit ton of shaving! And it's a huge heavy nasty pig, but strong as hell!
I did consider the 14 bolt...

And I don't have the skill (or at least I don't feel comfortable enough) to weld up a shave kit to the 14 bolt, so I'd have to pay someone like you or Darrell to do that too.

I know the 14 bolt and 60 are stupid strong, but honestly for an Xj do you really think I need more than what the lp 44 can handle?

I really wish someone made a shave kit for 60's, or better yet I wish teraflex still made that center section Dustin has!

I'd have to get some measurements of my buddies jeep, but I don't think the rock jocks have near the clearance people think. They just slide over stuff a little better

Found a small crack in the #3 piston skirt

It's hard to make out but the crack is to the left of the rod, vertical.

First time I've seen the inside of this motor.
Other than that it looks great. Should I be concerned about this?
or maybe o should say how concerned should I be?

That's the one that always fails

I think you should feel lucky you caught it this early and I say order up a new piston..

That's what I was talking to nick about.
I'll just get everything together, and take it to his guy I think

I kinda expected to see something like that in there

I'm curious to see how loose my flex plate bolts are too!

Just what I want to hear right now.....
Lol put another motor in... :(

I have a brand new long block. Everything is brand new except the block. It wasn't cheap, so yeah a new motor can be $$$

I'd button that pan back up, and pretend you never saw it. :gag:

That's the plan ATM. :looney:
Button it back up and run it for a bit. Sometime after thanksgiving I'll take it in and get it replaced. Everything looks great besides that. I just hope I quit finding shit like this....

I just want this bastard back together and on the trail! Still got a couple weeks, then shocks. I already have so much to do, this is kinda the icing on the cake.

Oh well, sh!t happens

It's so tempting to edit Adams post and put my phone number in there.. Free jeep!

But, nobody else would find that nearly as funny..:dunce:

I think it would be funny too Scott!

Kinda surprised nick didn't try to add it to his Xj collection
