April's national Rig of the Month is going to be a "Chapter Shootout," which means we need to select a NWC candidate to send off to the national competition next month.

So, here's how this will work. Post up two good pictures of you Jeep, and an up to date spec list of the junk on it. I would really like to see some good quality pictures highlighting what wheeling in the NWC is about (trees, mountains, dunes, snow, etc).

I'll leave the thread open for submissions until we have enough, but I'm thinking between 5-7.

Closed for submissions, time to VOTE!

No 1990 4 door XJ's with TNT long arms, Kevlars, and a goofy looking jungle gym (another words no current ROTM winners, sorry Rod). :D

I'll be the first to admit there aren't a lot of bells and whistles on this XJ.
Its a nice example of the rugged capability and good looks of a slightly modified Cherokee.
Picking good lines, reading the Jeep's response to terrain, and attentive throttle control gets me there and back again.
I've got skid plates, a winch, and good wheeling buddies for going the extra mile!

1996 Cherokee Sport
4.0L w/ Flowkooler water pump, Gibson Stainless header, Carsound/Magnaflow hi-flow catalytic converter, Gibson cat-back w/ TJ muffler
Automatic Trans (AW4)
NP242 w/ TeraLow and Currie fixed yoke conversion
Tom Wood drivelines front/rear

Front axle is a custom narrowed Ford High Pinion Dana44 w/ Warn alloy shafts, Spicer 760 u-joints, 5.13 ring and pinion with ARB air locker. Small truss over differential to help keep things rigid.

Rear axle is custom Tera60R, hi-pinion with 5.13 gears, 35 spline alloy shafts and ARB air locker.

Suspension is custom Rubicon Express longarm (built prior to RE release of XJ longarm) with homemade bellypan/crossmember to accommodate RE longarms and NP242. Front springs are Rubicon Express 4.5" ZJ coils, JKS ACOS w/ OME shim packer to help quiet things down. Front shocks are early Bilstein 9100 large body with large body reservoir.

Rear suspension is a purpose-built leaf pack that started as an Old Man Emu XJ set with Rancho Toyota progressive add-a-leaf and 1" shackles. 2.5" block helps move things up while the leaf pack is relatively flat. Home-built traction bar attached to belly skid keeps the rear axle from flipping around. Rear shocks are Bilstein 7100 with remote reservoir.

37x12.50x15 Goodyear MT/Rs on 15x8 (4" BS) wheels in 5x5.5" bolt pattern help get me where I want to go. An AGR steering box doesn't even grunt when turning them.

Front bumper is an ARB winch/bullbar with a Warn M8000. Lighting the way is a set of LightForce 170mm with yellow combo filters. Headlights are discontinued IPF MSR (Multi-Surface Reflector) H4 conversion pieces with IPF Fatboy II bulbs (3200K for better crappy weather visibility), powered by IPF headlight harness and Optima red top battery.

Rear bumper is homemade swingout with a fullsize spare tire and spare hub/rotor assembly for the Dana 44. Just inside from the bumper is a Quickair II compressor tied into the box-tube rockers for approximately 8gal of onboard air. Air lockers are actuated by a wireless PIAA switch mounted to the steering wheel.

Stereo is nothing special...just a Kenwood Excelon head unit, stock speakers, stock rear soundbar, and added-on Sirius satellite receiver (GREAT when between mountains and radio signals aren't found).

Nothing else really to mention other than the overhead rack that keeps rain gutters from smashing and keeping doors shut. :D Overhead console with power and light, Cobra 19 CB radio, damn near every spare fluid and electrical part that could fail...etc...
