NWC Picture of the day

Just before christmas 2009 (they're almost certainly more expensive now) I got 4 285/75r16 Treadwright BFG AT retreads for $550 shipped.

It took several years of wheeling before anyone noticed they weren't actually BFGs, and even then, it was only after I mentioned that I bought a real BFG off craigslist to replace one I tore a sidewall on, and got "wait, those aren't real BFGs? what the hell are they?".

Still running on em, though they're getting kinda low on tread. Maybe 3/16-1/4 inch left now.

Some people don't trust retreads... they are also a bit heavier than the original tire would be... with what I have done to mine with no problems, I will trust them just fine. Over 100mph? Yup. There's a slash in one shoulder nearly deep enough to hit the cords, has been since 2010. No problems with it. I've run em at highway speed aired down to 16psi, beat the hell out of em offroad, powersliding corners on pavement, potholes, bumps, jumped it a little a couple times, you name it, they've seen it, and no issues yet.

I'm probably putting a set of their 235/75R15 Crawler MT(C)s on my DD XJ this spring when it isn't snow tire season anymore. Can't say no to $87ea 235s with MT tread.

So they are called treadwright? Ill have to do some searching on these. I'm looking for tires on the cheap and I know I can get 31" GT adventuro m/t for about $130 a piece so total would be like $600-$700 mounted and balanced.

I think an older name for possibly the same tire was Hi-teck Retreads...

If you want feedback, look up Hi-tech. The few local guys I knew who ran them, never had an issue with them.

Yeah, they used to be called hitech iirc.

I've heard of one failure in all the years I've been wheeling. One tire delaminated and had a giant egg/blister grow in the tread a few days after installation while the rig was parked. I think it was even on here, iirc danman2k06 posted it.

edit: nevermind, it was two failures. danman2k06 posted one of them and someone else posted another in the same thread. http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1075531

Both were given free replacements.

Well.. Jetta didn't fair to well in Friday/Saturdays weather

So I upgraded my wife's DD to something with AWD.

Oh sure.... blame it on the weather....

"JEEP RECOVERY VEHICLE" ....uh-huh...sure you are.
I REALLY wish I had been driving my Jeep when I saw this guy.
I would have stoped him and asked him many "Jeeps" he's actually "recovered" using his 2WD looking-near-stock-S10 with street tires.

And I see Grand's for sale on CL all the time that are called Cherokee's.
