How do these transmissions hold up to horsepower and torque of a stroker or turbo 4.0L? I know the AW4 is pretty strong, but later on I was looking to switch to a nv3550 since I can get one for a good price, but will I pretty much destroy it if I go turbo or stroker?

The NV3500 is pure beef. Not as strong as the NV4500, but the NV3500 can handle pretty much anything you can throw at it.

The AW4 is pretty strong as well, but will most definetly require valve body modification if you want it to last.

Between the two, I would most definetly take the NV3500. BTW, where can you get one for a good price if you don't mind me asking? :)

I have a friend who just who buys a lot of junk vehicles every once in a while, he just picked up a 00 cherokee sport with one in it, guy totalled it and he said he'll sell it to me cheap. Hasn't picked up too many jeeps so I guess I'm lucky to get one soon.

I ran a NV3550 and now a NV4500 . The NV#3xxx is strong but the 2 to 3 shift is about a mile long even with the short shift kit The tranny will not power shift. Not to my liking anyway. Just forget about powering the NV4500. If you like your wrist that is.
I love my stick but for speed go with the slush box (IMO)
The 3550s 4 to 1 is too deep for a first gear???? It's one of the thing I liked about it. The 4500 has a first of 6.XX now that a bit deep for go fasting . Great for offing and towing :)

oh, to the OP:
the 3550 is rated to about 300 horse / ft lbs by the manufacturer. I think the 4550 was put behind the Cummins turbo diesel, if thats any indicator of it's strength.
the AW4, in varying levels of trim & modification, has been used in drag race applications quite successfully (as the A340 (i think) in Supras)
it makes heat, it soaks up power but the AW4 doesn't die easy.
