I got theses springs from an old International pickup truck. Does anybody no why these spring are notched like this. there got to be a reason IH did this. I guess its could be considerd a progressive spring? Also makes it nice to lubricate. don't know if this is AF, but should make for some good discusion. I have some theory's of my own, but its really hard to explain.

I plan to redo these soon as they are to stiff, I like the fact they don't wrap though. I need a full legth spring to go onder my xj main. My 36's keep bending springs so I went to these and they work great, no wrap at all, but way to stiff.

It seem there would be more friction, cause the same wieghts on a smaller serface area. Like skinny tire verses a wide tire. I'm thinking the added mass of the outer edge would put more leaveradge on twisting forces, perhaps adding in twisting ability of the spring

I have seen grooved springs on old military jeeps from WWII. So I looked into it and found that grooved spring steel was used in the 1940’s and 50’s before parabolic springs came into use to save weight on uniform thickness springs.

thanks for the advice weelinJR, The shackel angle is on my list among other things. I'm in the process of retubing a HP dana 50 to run in the rear. Alittle off topic, but my hp44 front will be going in first. For my traction bar, it's still up in the air how I'll set it up.
