Northern WI or the UP eh

Though I don't live there now I am still a true yooper - eh..... Still go up there alot - visit my family and the wife's - plus have 80 acres to play on, and may start building some wheeling trails on. I lived in Michigamme, and my wife is from the far north (Calumet). Plan is to move back in a year or so (hopefully)

Technically, I'm a relocated Troll out near Mini-no-place. I was up at da Tech from '81 to '86, and I still get up there to visit friends not frequently enough.

Well i live about 20minutes south of Iron Mountain der hey. I travel the UP for work and am consistantly in the Houghton and Marquette areas. I love this area. Four wheeling and fishing nuttin better der hey.

I am located just north of Green Bay. You are about an hour and a half away from me. Lots of wheeling going on just about every weekend so if you are interested get a hold of me.

My eyes are bleeding from the poor Yooper accent. Just a little goes a long way, eh? I'm a displaced Yooper from the Watersmeet area. People here don't know the difference between a pasty and a pastie. Sometimes I enlighten them.... Sometimes I don't :greensmok

<grin> Gravy? or ketchup?

My first job here in Indiana everyone asked if I was from Canada with my accent. At least at my current job there are a lot of us yoopers - kinda cool.

gravy = troll

Personally, I don't care for them....... but the debate rages as fiercely as Jeep vs. Chevy vs. Ford Vs. Dodge, Windows vs. Mac, or U**x vs. all.

Jeff.... if you put one drop of gravy on my pasty..... I cannot finish that statement but rest assured it would involve lots of pain and a very significant emotional event on your part. But you knew that already . :moon:

Got a link to that beer you had at Meatfest? One o' these days I'd like to try my hand at the home-brew.

<grin> Fomenting strife...... gotta love it.

That beer I had at MeatFest 2007 was an Irish Porter from an Ironmaster canned kit. It's apparently actually produced by Munton's. And I can't find jacksh*t on line about it. I got it at Klopp's Brew Shop (shops in Rochester and Pine Island, MN.) I discovered Northern Brewer (http://www.northernbrewer.com) when I was bottling that batch, and I doubt I'll ever buy from Wally again. It's not that I didn't like buying stuff there, NB is just far better. NB has some pretty good kits for the home brewer as well.

Edit: my mistake, it was an Irish Stout.

Hey you guys ever stop at the Library der in Houghton?
They have some quality micro brews there. Although I'd like to try some home brewing sometime as I am an AVID BEER drinking man.

Go down the street to Keweenaw Brewing. IMHO, as good (or better) for beer, and a bunch cheaper. Frankly, the Library just isn't what it used to be. Then again, I frequented it 25 years ago.

The Michigan House/Red Jacket up in Calumet is also highly recommended.

Yeah the Keweenaw one is good - are they open later now? The new library isn't the same after the old one had the fire. Well since we are talking beer now can't forget the pickled eggs - woohoo. Just finished off the last batch I made a month ago.

Michigan house is cool too - course got my first ever parking ticket there. I think that town has more parking meters then people. I may head up to the UP in Sept for some wheeling / helping the parents out get ready for winter.

If you're talking about pickled eggs in Houghton, you *MUST* have gone to the B&B (decorated in Early American Warehouse.) A pickled egg, a Gilt Edge and change back from your buck.

I don't know off the top of my head how late Keweenaw Brewing is open. I'll ask a friend of mine (works in Fisher Hall) the next time I see him online (probably later tonight.)

They need some license to stay open later - for some reason I want to say since it was a brewery they didn't need the licore license, but are slated as a restaurant so couldn't stay open as later. I use the B&B ingredient list when I make my pickled eggs. Think the record for one night eating them was 15 eggs with beer - not me, one of my friends.

Oh, good gawd...... 15 eggs & beer in one night? Stay upwind from him for at least 3 days.

KB is supposed to be open 'til 11:00 PM most nights, closes early on Sunday. Guess they do close early.

The KBC is great. Great beer for $2 a pint every day, and free wireless internet. I've had lots of meetings there, but suprisingly have gotten little done. Our internet went out at the house on monday at 2. I had to go to the KBC to get my work done. darn

If anyone is going up in to the keweenaw let me know, I know a few other XJ's that would go for a cruise also.
