Just wanted to say hey and introduce myself - Well I've never owned a jeep or been wheelin for that matter, but I think I'm getting the bug? Both my teenage boys have cherokee's, the oldest (17) purchased a 98' XJ sport less than a year ago and so far it has been a good vehicle, we spent alot of time looking for a clean, stock, well maintained unit so I must say initialy I was a little disapointed when he begain with all the modification stuff. Now when my youngest said "I want a jeep too" and after seeing what happened with the first one ( lifts, wheels, tires, home made bumpers, body trim removal, fender hacking, trail damage, to name a few) I figured why bother, so 2 weeks ago he ended up with a 99' XJ base model. It does have some issues yet overall it seems to be in pretty fair condition (hopefully nothing major), but with this weather we haven't had much of a chance to look into them. It came with the crapy idiot light insturment cluster which I'd like to replace so I'm wondering if you guy's could give me some good sources for used cherokee parts in the Denver metro area?
Thanks
Kirk

Hmmm used cherokee parts...
Best place in town = the house of heeps in littleton. Fair prices but the owner has a few issues but he is ok... :)

Msg Yellaheep with what you need.

Welcome to our obsession! Where in colorado are you?

Welcome aboard! If you love the outdoors, this is a good way to see more of it.

From what I have seen, the newer XJs are a little more difficult to get parts for. I have a '90, so there are always a few at the self serve yards like Pull-N-Save or Western. Right now Western has a '98, but I'm not sure what is left on that one. It has been there for a month or so.

If you like to work on your own stuff, it saves a lot of $$$. If you get the bug, find an older $500 Heep on Craigslist and have at it.

Ha ha. Chris (Sting25) is a funny guy.......

But I do have that gauge cluster you need for the '99.

PM me and we'll talk.

2chrkdad, where are you located?

Thanks for the info. I'll give him a go. Were in westminster, I think your right about the obsession my kids allready have a stack of parts/accessory mags a foot tall so I suspect the parts pile in the backyard will continue to grow. Actually we've been playing in the dirt for a long time, just on 2 wheels instead of 4. As for doing their own work the boys have found it to be a necessity cause mean ole mom & dad make them pay for everything. So far it's been alot of fun and a good learning experience, but what the heck is a "stinger" and why do we need one?LOL

Stinger is rear hoop on your rear bumper. Looks like a bee stinger hence the name.

Well as it turned out the "stinger" was a hoop but he put it on the front bumper. I don't know if it serves a purpose but he thinks it's kool! As for the parts search your right those self service yards can save you some $$, it had been a long time since I last visited one and thought the insurance companys had shut them down. Thanks again for the advice and also to YELLAHEEP who proved to be a good source for both parts and information, I don't know about his "issue's", but I am worried he may end up with more of my paycheck than the wife!!! Anyways Merry Christmas

Having just done this, I'll add that it's better to get the OEM senders from the dealer. My temp read all wrong until I did, and it was cheaper than the aftermarket sender anyway. I found my cluster in the wanted section of Colorado4x4.org, good deal, I think it was $10.
