Alot of people use the RE SYE and they've said that it really isn't too complicated to put on. Actually come to think of it, every 97+ XJ with an SYE that I've seen has been the hack and tap.
You see, I need to get my XJ together by next Sunday, BUT EVERYONE is out of town right now, for this moab retreat, and I know ordering a driveshaft takes a while.. I might be sol....
Yes, what they offer is a glorified Hack n tap as well.. Id definitely go w/them.. but the whole $200 core for your tcase parts hits me below the belt... money wise
MIT used to make a 242 SYE - I've had their kit on my XJ for 5 years.
I'd do the hack 'n tap for the 242, especially if it is a '97+ XJ, because then I thimk you don't even need any t-case housing mods (so the kit should be cheaper). There's nothing you can do strengthwise for the 242, so why go through the pain of dropping and splitting the case only to install a mainshaft that is basically identical to the finished product of the RE kit?
I know Tom Wood doesn't like the hack 'n tap, but I've never heard of one failing. This is a two beer job with basic tools. Do it.
Yeah... I just find it ridiculous to pay $200 for a "hack n tap" plus a 200 core.... shoot, 200 period for a hack n tap seems ridiculous..
But if its my only option...
