No answers in the MWC section, can anyone help over here??

Ok, replaced the CPS and it runs and has not died since I replaced that. I will replace the MAP sensor and the TPS. But what is IAC? I am sure after someone posts what it is I will feel like a idiot, but that one I can not figure out. Thanks for everyones help yet again, hope to get these problems ironed out before winter. And I dont want to keep spending money on all this stuff, there is a 4 1/2 inch Zone offroad lift kit that is calling my name, along with a set of 32 BF Goodrich KM2's. That will be the spring project.

Don't waist money on a MAP sensor, as they rarely go bad!!! Instead, clear the codes, and run it, and look for new codes. The vacuum tubing from the throttle body to the MAP sensor is known for coming loose at the throttle body and causing it to back fire during acceleration or deceleration. And it can go bad, and leak.

The IAC only affects idle speed control!!!!!!

Did you check and clean all the GROUNDS and Battery connections?????????

the IAC is the Idle Air Control

It's the other doomahickey on the trottlebody around the corner from the TPS

I thought is was a whatchimacallit?

I will clean all the grounds and check all battery connections tomorrow. I already have replaced the CPS, so I imagine I will find out tomorrow if that fixed everything. If it makes it all the way to work, then I should be good to go! And if I can get my miss to go away, I will be happy. I have found one HUGE plus to the 4 cyl over the 6: The CPS was removed from the top side with a Gearwrench, nothing else. After hearing what a PITA it was to take out for most people, I am at least happy one thing went easy for me!

You're both wrong. It's a gazookus.

OH come on now ... the whatchimacallit is one the other side of the manifold next to the thingamajigger. And I thought the gazookus was over next to the fizzbobber between the thingme and the who-zawhatsit

sheesh, I tell ya [facepalm]

You forgot the thingamabob!

it hasn't been located yet, search parties are still looking ... it's likely next to Ecomike's thingamabob ... not sure if you want to find it now ...

OK, I'll stop ... too much fun.

I replaced my whatchamacallit, with a thingamabob, then with a thingamajigger, and then the gitchigamiwhoohoo.

On a more on topic note, I am still having some issues with mine, similar to these, without the 4cyl. I did replace my TPS, as it was out of specs when I tested it. Still not starting, have spark, and fuel. Fuel pressure is within specs, when tested at the test port. All plug wires are in their correct positions, and are all getting spark correctly. Problem is that I have lined up the dizzy marks and its like it wants to fire, but isn't. Like timing is off. I have the dizzy advanced to around the 6 o'clock position, and I have retarded it back to the 3 o'clock postion, and every position in between , and still not starting and running. Give me any thoughts on what's going on or what I am missing. I pulled the IAC, cleaned it and the passages as best as I could with a toothbrush and throttle body cleaner, and still no starty....

Jeff

If you pulled the Dizzy out, did you reinstall at TDC on cyl #1 on the compression stroke or the exhaust stroke?

Did you mark where the rotor was pointing before pulling the distributor? (that works only if you don't crank the engine over before the dizzy is reinstalled)

If yes, then it doesn't matter. Otherwise, top dead center nearly always refers to compression stroke.

If you are not sure whether you timed the distributor to TDC compression or TDC exhaust, you can quickly check this by moving all the spark plug wires 180 degrees from their present position. If the car starts, or even makes a good effort to start, you know you did it wrong.

:idea:never heard this before, but I'll keep it in mind if I ever need it.
