NO aftermarket Jeep 4.0 intakes???

Am I missing something? Why is there NO aftermarket intake made for the Jeep 4.0? Millions of Jeeps on the road (and off!); there's headers made in all corners of the globe, Edelbrock is surely working on a Performer RPM for Lada as I type this.... we're all scouring junkyards and eBay for overpriced 99-up intakes...

Isn't this a no-brainer?!?

It all comes down to: Demand, marketability, and cost.

Theres a reason that no one doesn't. An intake manifold is only as good as the head it's bolted onto. The 4.0L head isn't exactly a "jet engine" so to speak.

Then why so many header options? Camshafts!? And the weirdest example is BBK making a new-manufactured oversize TB. (That one surprised me). With all the niche intake manifolds Edelbrock produces -- and their Jeep header -- you'd think a Jeep intake manifold would be a sure thing.

Well, as long as they've got me covered for bolting a performance manifold on a GM 60-degree V6.... :looney:

For one. Those parts produce power gains (except the larger TB which just increases throttle response). Those that have dyno'd the early and late model manifolds will tell you that the gains have been negligable.

I'm sure they have done research and found the cost of producing an aftermarket product wasn't worth the gains (if any).

For one reason, the head is sort of a bottleneck when it comes to moving air in this engine. You COULD make a better intake manifold, but I would bet the head is already closed to maxxed out.

as for the exhaust, how many threads have you seen that ask "my intake cracked/is leaking... who makes the best replacement?"

Was your '97 intake cracked when you swapped yours for the '99?

I'd wager that a current, computer-designed intake manifold could perform better than Chrysler's 12 year old design. If I had to choose between searching for a used '99 intake for $100 to make 5 horsepower (on a stock motor), or ordering brand new Edelbrock manifold online for $200 to make 8 horsepower, and guaranteed to fit with all headers and power steering without modification, clearance issues, or additional hardware --- I'd go with the latter. (To say nothing of current and future engine mods, stroker motors, etc.)

I haven't read of someone actually having that setup, but it would sure be cool to see and hear in person.

There are two versions: one for the carb'd 6's and one for the EFI 6's. It'd be interesting to see how much the whole setup costs(carbs and linkage are separate) and where the vacuum lines go.

Clifford make some bad-a$$ stuff! i had their 4-barrel intake and split headers on my 300 I-6 and the Lunati cam(can't remember the grind). It would smoke all four 33's on a locked/locked Ford f-150. That truck was a beast.

interesting, i also had their 4 barrel intake and header(and some "rv cam") on a 300-6 in my '69 f-100 on 33's(was a 2-by), never found myself wishing for more power. that truck was a freaking beast. it would pull anything i could put in, on, or behind it.

I had one of there 4bbl intakes(with a 390 holley 4bbl) and a six into 1 header on my CJ-8's 258 and the thing had plenty of power, it was pretty quick also, I would do it again excepct I think I'd stick with V-8 or a diesel in any CJ that I do again.
