(CNN) -- The teenage son of wrestling icon Hulk Hogan was discharged Monday from a Florida hospital after he slammed his Toyota Supra into a palm tree in a wreck local police called "spectacular."

Nick Bollea, 17, was driving at a "high rate of speed" when he wrecked Sunday evening, police say.

1 of 3 A representative answering the patient information line at Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg, Florida, said Nick Bollea, 17, had been discharged. Bollea is the son of Hogan, whose real name is Terrence Bollea.

Bollea's passenger in the Sunday crash, John Graziano, 22, remained in critical condition at Bayfront on Monday afternoon, said hospital spokeswoman Nancy Waite.

"Nick is currently at the hospital with John and his family," said Bollea's mother, Linda Hogan, in a statement. "His sole concern is for the well-being of his friend. On behalf of my family, we ask that your thoughts and prayers be with John and his loved ones."

Nick Bollea was driving at a "high rate of speed" Sunday evening when he lost control of the yellow Supra, said Wayne Shelor, a spokesman for the Clearwater, Florida, police.

The car "inexplicably left the roadway," jumped a median and crashed into a palm tree just east of downtown, Shelor said.

"It destroyed the car," he said.

Firefighters had to extract Bollea and Graziano from the wreckage. Both were flown by helicopter to Bayfront Medical Center, Shelor said.

Police shut down the mile-long Court Street, the main east-west thoroughfare through central Clearwater, as they investigated the accident, he said.

"It was a spectacular wreck," Shelor said.

Footage from the crash site showed Hogan speaking to paramedics and police officers and talking on a cell phone. Hogan later went to the St. Petersburg hospital, Shelor said.

Can you say Involuntary Manslaughter? How about Negligent Homicide?

(Edit: last I heard, the friend was in really bad shape)

How about...don't give a 17 year old kid a 500hp Supra?

I just saw one of his kids wad up Dodge Viper on Nopi Tunervision TV this weekend.

glad hes ok and we should pray for his friend, BUT what a moron. what the hell was he thinking, he could drift in public? its one thing if he is by himself, but he had a passenger and his passenger is his responsibilty. damn rich kids. he better hope his friend makes it.

I was watching "Hogan knows best" when Nick was trying to become a pro drifter in a Dodge sponsored Viper.

Wreaked it twice.

Maybe now his dad will give him a stock civic.

You do know that the work zone ticket, and the wreck are not on the same day...right?

As far as his crash.....meh.

Happens everyday....and a lot worse the that.

WTF is a 'pro drifter'?

Anyone who watches Hogan Knows Best could tell you that waste of skin doesn't know how to drive. I hope the other kid pulls through OK.

Maybe his dad should buy him a gun. That way, he can kill himself without hurting anyone else.

Well......

Maybe that is what it would take. I drive through work zones all week......it is the rare vehicle that evens slows down for a work zone, much less to the posted speed.

No. Leave it alone!

Ah, but it would be sooo easy...

No! Walk away. It's not worthy of your talents.

Come on. Just one shot. Please.

I said, No! He didn't know what he was typing. Just leave the poor Hogan watcher alone. It's not nice to pick on someone just because they watch Hogan.

Awww. You never let me have any fun.

Don't start whining. I'll send you to your room.

United States Drift Association.

That's...that's just sad. Really, that's just so pathetic I can't think of anything to say. I feel very sad for the future of the human race.

Hijack, but I gotta agree with Rhys Millen regarding drifting. He said it should be an X-Games sport because it has little to nothing to do with racing and is all about style and cool factor.

Really, the only thing that cheeses me off about drifting is when they either refer to it as 'racing' or when they talk about 'formula' when talking about drifting.

They had a drift night out here at the local track about a month ago and I have to say, I found myself getting into it. Reminded me of how I used to drive my Camaro back in the day. Of course, that was in rushhour traffic...

:D
