Nice Weather were havin' aint it?

I've got something that doesn't have anything to do with the weather :-)

I need to replace the passenger side axle seal on my D30. Which leads me to
two questions...

1) Anyone have a suggestion as to "the seal" to buy? I would prefer to put in a
great seal since I am bothering to replace it at all. I just don't know if I should
buy one from AutoZone, Checker, Napa, 4WD.com, etc....

2) Anyone have "the tool" to use for removing and replacing the seal? I saw
one in an article that was made from a monster of a washer, a 1/2" drive large
socket and a long piece of all thread. Should I just resort to manufacturing one
like that article suggested or can I find the actual tool locally?

Thanks in advance. And yes, the weather has been incredible! (So good I have
spent my time lugging everything I own into a trailer to move from Arvada to
Lakewood!!!)

Weather's not bad around these parts. The trees are turning as well. A frend of mine says Express Creek Road is looking really good as the aspen's are half-way changed.

Time to bust out the ol' film camera and get to shooting some chrome.

Yeah. I'm hoping to get out for a short run tommorw morning. I also want to try and do the Alpine loop at the end of the month or early october.

On a side note, has anyone noticed all the dead trees up in Frisco/Breck area? I was told that we need like a week of below freezing temperaturs this winter to kill those pine beetles or they'll wipe us out.

Pine beetles are hitting this area pretty bas as well. We're getting swaths of pine dying along Castle Creek Road and Maroon Creek Road as well as some areas near Basalt.

The weather is definately much cooler this weekend. Temp hit 34 last night. Brrrr.

Time to do some last minute runs before the snow begins to hit.

Disco or non-disco?
Article on MADXJ.COM for doing Disco version including writeup of what Andreas used for a tool.

I was hoping to see the trees turn this year, you think they'll wait a couple of weeks?

I think the cool weather will slow them down. They just started turning so there is plenty of time. I'm pretty sure they'll be OK until the end of the first week in October.

I am really hoping for a really wet winter and good old fashioned Cold!!!
Sorry for you guys that have to be outside, but we really need the cold and the wet!! It would be really nice to have the drought behind us and see things and peopel in good spirits again!!

Drove up Rollins Pass East yesterday. It was freezing :shiver: at the top and snowing like crazy. Winter is at about 11,000 feet and heading down hill.

I used a 3.5' length of 2" pipe(or tube, if you prefer :sunshine: ) to remove both seals and install one of the seals. Used a long piece of threaded rod for the other seal. It's pretty obvious when the unit bearings are off, the axles removed, and the diff removed. I got the seals from Carquest. Pulled the axles out once, and they leaked. :gonnablow

I've seen some small trees in the Springs that have already turned, and the some of the trees in my yard are turning.

An addendum: The fall colors at the Maroon Bells have been destroyed by the record breaking lows we recieved over the weekend. In fact, the ones that had turned yellow, fell off or turned a dark brown.

Whole groves already lost their leaves and it looks like it will get worse as the week progresses.

Bummer. I was hoping to shoot some pretty colors this year.
