newbie here with tranny issue

I just bought my fisrt jeep.91 ckerokee 4.0,4x4,with the AW4 auto tranny.Yesterday it started taking off in second not first. I can manually shift to 1st with no prob,then shift to D and it goes on through2,3,4 with no problem. Could this be a shift solenoid or the throttle positioning sensor?Thanks, scotty
