Intermittent AW4 shifting issue

Time to pick the brain of the hive mind...
95 XJ with an AW4 trans. Intermittent issue, no real rhyme or reason as to when it happens. Coming to a stop, doesn't always shift back down to 1st. Shifts fine manually up and down, kickdown works like its supposed to. Upshifts fine when I shift manually or when it's not doing its periodic downshift thing. Fluid is full, color and smell are fine, TPS is new. Ideas?

Most likely the #1 solenoid. There are a ton of threads on here for testing and replacing the solenoids. Clean the harness connectors under the hood on the passenger side up against the firewall, and measure the solenoid resistances.

Note if you're looking at Cruiser's picture, there is no fuse near the TCM on a 95.
