Well I am new to this forum and new to the world of Jeeps. I have always had an interest in jeeps. Now I have purchased a 2001 XJ (I have heard that it is not the best of years for the XJ). It is a good looking truck and I am looking to lift it a little and do some other things to it and then do a little wheeling with it, all while keeping it reliable enough to drive daily. I will get you some pics of it as soon as I get it back.

Welcome to the MWC Dude! I'm a couple hours south of you but I wheel at Badlands and I know GoSlowGetStuck who lives in west lafayette so I go up there sometimes.

I saw your post in the Badlands thread for this weekend, I was going to respond to you there but just saw this. Flexd is right, I actually live in W Lafayette. You should definitely take advantage of living so close to the Badlands!

Maybe we can get a run together once your rig is ready to wheel, or if you get your parts in and need some help getting the lift put on just let me know, I'd be glad to come over and help you out. Or if you just wanna meet up and grab a beer in the meantime, I'm more than willing to do that for no reason at all.

And welcome to NAXJA, the Midwest chapter is a great group of people, stick around and attend a few of our events and you'll see what I mean. I don't even have an XJ any more and they let me show up. :D

I live just outside of Battle Ground myself but still have a W. Laffy address. I definitely want to go to the badlands but don't know if I should being all stock. Do you guys think that a 3" lift with 31x10.50x15 tires would be good enough for some mild wheeling at the Badlands? I may take you up on that offer sometime of having a beer!! :)

you will get by verry good with a 3" and 31's, you can make it stock too

Hi and welcome. I with brad (goslowgetstuck) If you need any help or want to see what a stock cherokee can do lets us know, we will take you out.

I will be moving up to 33's and will have some pretty fresh 31" BFG KM2's for sale soon. They are a great tire. Let me know if you decide to get some. You will save a lot of $ over buying them new.

first, welcome. second, there is nothing wrong with the 01's, the prefered XJ's are 91 and up due to the High Output 4.0 ltrs. the only issues that you may have is that the tcase is a bit longer than the 91-96's which makes lifting sometimes an issue with driveline angles, but it's not a big deal to work out.

you know that McD's on 43? I deliver to that store every thurs morning at 6am. if you're in the area around that time and see a Big Mac truck there, stop and say hi, I'm the fat bald guy wearing a green shirt. also, the badlands has something for everyone, 31's will net you a great day/weekend of wheeling. there's times I wish I was back on 31's. :D

I live just down the road from that McD's. I live just off of 600 which is the road that crosses 43 right there at the light by McD's. I see you there every week on my way to work or at least most weeks.

I think we're about 10 minutes away. I live just off Morehouse Rd. So you're thinking about 3" of lift and 31s? You'll be fine! I run 4" of lift and 31s and I do plenty well out there. My first time out I ran with a stocker and did just fine, too. With how muddy the Badlands are, lockers will do way more for you than lift or tire size. The only things I know about an '01 are the coil on plug ignition and the low pinion front axle. I don't see the COP causing any problems, but maybe swap to a high pinion front axle at some point (I have a low pinion, too) and that will help with getting a lift, as far as proper caster angle on the front axle.

I had no idea you were in the area so often. Maybe next Thurs I should head up there early and catch you. If I make conversation with a fat bald guy wearing a green shirt hopping out of a Big Mac truck, and it's not you, I will certainly feel awkward. :D

That and the crappy 0331 head. Just be very conscious about your coolant level and flush it religiously. I put in a 180* tstat to combat my 01's potential to crack.

Welcome to the site. I'm a few hours south in Vincennes.

I will definitely keep note of the coolant levels and keep it clean.

Vincennes is where my wife went to college!

Welcome to NAXJA and more importantly, the best chapter! I've done a bit of wheeling at the Badlands with my rig when it was stock. Really, there's something there for everyone. Seems that Brad has become quite the chapter centerpoint in Indiana, I hang with him quite a bit too. At any rate, you've found a wealth of knowledge through the board. Welome again!

Stock will do good at badlands man! I am on 2" w/ 31's and can do all of green and probably some of orange on a dry day without many problems.

I seriously may want those tires. I will have a set of Kumho Road Venture MT's for sale if I get these! :D Mine also are fairly fresh w about 5k on them. I just want KM2's!

Just someone let me know. I figure a member price of $550 should be tempting enough for someone to take them.
