We just picked up 3 of these MAN trucks for our farming operations (spreading hog crap with them). One is in Pennsylvania getting fitted for a custom manure tanker, but I have to tell you these things are fun as hell to play around with. They are 8 wheel drive, with the option to run only the rear drive axles, front drive axles in conjunction and then there is an option to diff lock all 4 axles. They are set up with linked suspension with a huge set of coils on each axle as well as a hydrolic adjust shock per coil. We ran 60 down the highway with it and it rode smoother then our F250 farm trucks! We were running across fields at 25-30 mph yesterday and it was unbeliveable on how they just floated across the rough frozen fields. We were topping terraces at 20+ mph and it was not even rough riding. These were originally bought by the US Air Force to haul missles, but now they are destined to haul crap.... Anyhow, not related to Jeeps at all, but still a cool new toy for the farm.

HAHA, I somehow knew that question might come up. I actually asked my farming partner (father-in-law) about the possibility of driving one long distance and he said that they would make the drive no problem, but since we have titled them as "farm use only" we are not "supposed" to exceed 30 mph with them. The titling of this type of equipment has been a freaking nightmare. So, that basically shot down my idea of using it as a tow vehicle :D I am going to post up some more pics of the suspension later, it is freaking awesome! It has planetary axles that dwarf Rockwells. It is set up to haul 120,000#. The original use was to haul the Pershing Missle. they also have a 10 ton (20K #) mid mount winch for forward or rear recovery. Like I said, it is a big boys toy at the moment!

One of the neighbors saw the semis delivering them and boy did the rumors already start flying around the county!!

Those things are wicked! I only wish you could bring one to WF.

cool as hell aren't they silent_bob!! Oshkosh copied the MAN trucks and that is what we actually wanted to get ahold of, but these 3 MAN trucks were a great price so we went with them for the time being. I just saw a 5 axle Oshkosh unit going down the road on a trailer for delivery last week. They are awesome!

It would be fun in the sand dunes are, but I am not thinking it would do real well on the trails:D She is a bit long!! It does have an awesome turning radius due to the dual front axle steering. I was afraid that I was going to wipe out the mail box at the end of the drive last night, but it turned in just the same as a car.

The ones I drove you could select from 1 wheel drive all the way up to 10 wheel drive. The very rear axle steered with the front two. Had tire inflation & deflation from inside the cab, 5 differant air settings. If I remember right It was a Detroit V-8 supercharged w/twin turbo setup.

these are not that "fancy" :D These are running 10 cylinder MAN diesels.

we also purcased a "lube" trailer from a surplus auction and it had never been used! Paid $1600 for the trailer and it had an onboard air compressor, and a full reel assembly in the back that gives you pneumatic grease, engine oil, gear lube and air. The extra parts were still wrapped in brown paper. We purchased it as a field tending unit for these MAN trucks and we also bought a duece and a half with an enclosed box on it to aid as our sevice vehicle to these trucks. It is to be delivered in the next few weeks. I will post up pics as well. We already have the lube trailer at the shop and it is in perfect shape. Primed the motor and it fired right up

Top 3 lies farmers tell:

1) I paid for this seed corn hat.
2) I was just helping that sheep over the fence.
3) I don't make any money.

Nice rigs Tyler, surplus military stuff is great.

HAHA!! You busted my Byron! and especially on #2...oh wait, did I just say that :D All I can say is that the good years are good and the bad years are awful. I can see how people can go broke doing this, but I do it for the love of what I am doing and hoping to one day pas it all down to my son if he is interested in farming. There is virtually no way a person can get into farming in todays market strarting from ground zero, we are fortunate enough to of had these farms in the family for 5 generations now.

I hear ya, my dad is managing the farm ground his parents left to him, and it's hard. Throw in the fact that most of it is in Ohio, and the difficulty increases. Luckily the people doing the farming have been family friends for decades and they know what they need to do without needing every little decision from dad.

Interesting. MI's farm plates aren't speed limited, but are limited to something like 200 miles radius hauling farm product.

Having said that, I've towed out of MI twice now using farm trailers without issue.

That's awesome, more of a reason for me to come visit now ;)

Definitely need to get a it licensed for road use so we can tow to moab with it!!!!!
I figure you could tow about 9 XJ's on a car trailer! :D

titled as a farm vehicle in MO means it does not have plates but is used as a piece of farm machinery that just has a title. Now our farm trucks, i.e. pick ups and semis have Missouri "farm plates" that restricts their driving distance, but I like you have traveled farther then the said distacne with out any problems (like I did today to drive to central Illinois :D )
