New Jeep Renegade

How can you complain about the JK? They added width to the axles, which most Jeepers do. They added length, which most Jeepers do, that was proven by AEV.

Most people don't want old CJs because they are TOO small.

The old adage holds true again. "You can please some of the people, some of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time."

I just wish you'd look at the current trends, and see that jeep is giving the people what they want. They're doing from the factory, what most people are doing aftermarket. The JK had longer control arms than the TJ did.

This x10000000

I bought an XJ because TJ's are too small.....well the ones in my price range are. LJ's were brand new at the time I got my first Jeep. The IFS thing is BS for what we do but i'm sure there will be SAS kits available.

I like how they mention the 63 Wagoneer, the ONLY model year with IFS as an option. It failed, they quit offering it. THEN they mention the Hummer, wait, it had drop boxes for additional clearance and gearing, and it had IRS. It wasn't a combination of IFS and SRA.

I'm not an IFS fan, but have you seen the latest KOH buggy from Campbell Enterprises, it's got IFS, pretty beefy looking too.

They also weigh upto 4400lbs now. I guess people wanted that too.

And (again) for all that size, you can't fit much in them.
I sold my winter tires to some kid who picked them up in his father's new JK. It was funny watching him try to get them in.

Not sure where you got you info. I found anywhere from 3600-4200 pounds, with the Rubicon being the heaviest.

Hmm, I wonder what a 4-door AEV TJ weighed, since that is part of the evolution of the JK. What does a stretched TJ with tons weigh? Again, you're missing the part where I already mentioned that they are changing the Wrangler towards what the consumer wants, the Rubicon is prime evidence of this.

Don't get me wrong. TJs were heavy too.. ranging from 3100 to 3800lbs.... but the JKs took it to a whole new level - ranging from roughly 3800 to 4400lbs. I've been told it's mainly because of the body on frame vs unibody layout. I hate to think what the next wrangler will weight if Jeep doesn't start taking weight management seriously.

WAIT A SEC! By the looks of it, you're indicating that the TJ was unibody, and the increased weight is because the JK is now body on frame?

Let's think about this. The JK offers a 4 door, so it has a longer frame, more weight. The axles are wider, so there is some extra weight. The control arms are longer, more weight again.

Now let's look at the XJ. What happens when you swap axles? Bumpers? Winch? Long Arms? Strange, those things all at weight, and our 3300 pound XJ is suddenly around 4000 pounds.

I'd hate to imagine what Jeep might do if they keep taking input from the wheeling community. They'll continue to put out the best product on the market.

My XJ weighs 5300 lbs. what's your point?

The space they have is weird shaped but it is there. They are more roomy for back seat riders than an XJ too.

Urban, may I please see a pic of your XJ? I want to see if you put flares on it, or if you kept it skinny, wait, your XJ is fat compared to a CJ, 13" wider than the CJ I had. Sounds like you need to buy a Samurai.

how much stuff do you have in it? seems like alot of wieght for a stock axled uncaged rig

A lot. At any given moment or time I could hop in it and survive totally self sufficient for at least two weeks. It's kind if like my motorized bug out bag.

Yeah, XJs were unibody, so XJEEPER should complain about that as well.

Back when the XJ was introduced there was a lot of complaining about how Jeep could sell a Uni-body Car & call it a JEEP.
If there had been an internet back in 1983 the complaining would have been on an Epic level!
