Well I have a sad story. I went into El Chico to eat some lunch and came out and there was a police car parked behind my jeep. As I got closer I noticed broken glass on the ground. That is when I started fealing sick. I thought somebody broke into my jeep, or somebody hit me. I just wish that is what happened. While I was eating A wire shorted out under the hood and started fire. I just got lucky there was a fire truck sitting and the end of the row I parked in. They put the fire out quickly but it still got into the wiring harness and melted both fuseboxes. the one under the hood and under dash. My jeep Is a 94 xj up country with 200,000 miles but the motor only has about 20k on it. What I am thinking I want to do is find a xj or yj with a blown moter for cheap and swap my motor out. I am 21 and very limited on funds so the cheaper the better. I think a motor swap will be easier than to rewire mine. But I am posting this because I want everybody elses oppinon. Last questions are is the yj and xj ho motors wired the same? How difficult would it be to put my motor in a yj? Anybody got a xj or yj for me?

if you are gonna junk it how is the dash bezel? i am lookin for one out of a country for my laredo and havent found one in the yards yet. as for swappin the motor its easier and probobly cheaper than rewireing the car. plus you'll never get teh burned smell out... but thats just my opinion...

He said his is an up country. There is a big difference between a Country edition and one with the up country suspension.

Have them total it and buy it back: that's what I'm doing with mine after the roll and mine is TRASHED (on the otside) THat way after all is said and done and I transfer my goodies to whatever I'm going get to replace it I will have whole bunch of spare parts to keep or part out.

Btw.... 94 didn't have up country available as an option. IT might be country but definately not up-country as IIRC that was a set of options available on the 97+ models.

Upcountry was available much earlier than '97... it even included a special "Offroad Suspension" sticker that they dropped from the '97+ Upcountry package.

I believe that what was available was called something different: something to the effect of what you mentioned: offroad package or something like that. The upcountry as upcountry is a set of options on top of a package which didn't come out till the new body style.

I don't get your meaning there. Upcountry is the offroad suspension package, including stiffer/taller springs, stiffer shocks, tow hooks, skid plates, Trac-Lok rear differential, and I think heavy duty cooling and electrical. It used to have a sticker, and more recently did not. It was available with any trim level. And most of those components were available individually or as parts of other option groups except for the springs & shocks, which were unique to the Upcountry package.

Not with any trim... SE didn't have that.

Was just going to ask what an Up Country version contained. I have come across a 2001 XJ with the Upcountry package and did not know what it had on it. Anything else you could tell about them would be appreciated. If my labor contract gets signed Monday I think it will be mine.

Well I finally got my hood opened and it looks like the fuse box under the hood is melted, the windsheid washer bottle and wires, hood latch cable, battery, and plastic wire shroud around harness is melted. Don't know the extent of the damage yet. I will find out more as I get into it. I did find a 89 xj with a thrown rod for $700 today though so I might be selling some parts soon. as for the upcountry or counrty package I don't know for sure I have skid plates up front, t-case, and gas tank. Power everything, wood trim, and factory tinted glass. I could really care less about the taller, stiffer springs all they do is sit in the garage anyway. I have 3" roughcountry coils with 2" re spacer and rustys 4.5" springpack in rear (at least that is what they guy I got them from told me) 31" dunlop mud rovers 1 month old. Anybody know if I will have a problem putting my engine from the 94 into the 89?

Totally different harness between the two. Try to find a 92 or 93 then all the sensors and connectors will all be the same, fuel injection too. Personally I'd rather do the rewiring then horse all the other stuff over to a new carcass but thats your call. Any idea what caused it ?? or where it started from ??

That is what I am thinking about doing. It doesn't look as bad as I thought it was. I really don't know how it started but I have a good idea. It was my own stupidity I wired a start botton under the dash straight to the starter with out a fuse. I had it ran so it wasn't touching anything that could rub through it. This wire is totaly fried from under hood all the way to the swith. The reason I did this in the first place was because my Nuetral saftey switch kept acting up and finally died. So I placing the blame on me, my fault. Time to stop being lazy and just do it right. A fire extinguisher probably wouldn't be a bad investment either.
