A little late -- but, Garmont boots are my boots of choice -- try a pair and you won't ever go back. Keen makes some decent sandals too that are sturdy enough for pack-free day hikes.

I love my Scarpa boots, all leather, very aggressive and stiff. They're made to be hiked in not worn all day.

On the other hand I got a pair of Keen shoes for Christmas, they are very comfortable, just as comfortable as my Clarks.
