I've been going to this site for a few months now and finally decided to join in. The information I found at this site, JU, and Jeepin.com has been valuable and entertaining. When doing reasearch on whatever, I usually find what I'm looking for in a matter of minutes. Compared to the Isuzu Trooper(My friend has a 93 and I'm the one usually doing the work. He has 0 mechanical ability) finding information on the net pertaining to my XJ is a cake walk.

So, I was wondering if you guys could help me with something. I posted a similar thread in JU on the XJ and Wrangler forums. In 9-12 months, a friend and I are looking to relocate. I've been living in the Reno area for over 2 years but, wanderlust is setting in. This area is one of the most beautiful that I have lived in but, it's time to move on. I recommend the Reno/Tahoe area to anybody that loves scenery, activities, and wheelin.

The places we've looked into so far are Eugene OR, Alaska, and Western NC. I've already had suggestions for the New England area and Western Colorado. We're looking into those as well. The only requirements we have are decent cost of living, good job market, scenery, and places to wheel. I need to take the Jeep out every now and then and she's looking to buy a CJ or Wrangler.

The new location might possibly be a launching pad for a massive road trip through the US and Canada in the XJ. Well, once everything is paid for.

Thanks for any information or ideas in advance!

NAXJA has everything an XJ or MJ owner needs (as far as stock or 'build-it' advice) events, and 'community'

As far as relocation advice... We need more info about what you do (or want to do) and living requirements. Western NC/Eastern TN/North GA is very nice, if you like 'rural' living. It is a 'vacation' area, and the job market is fairly small.

Despite the drawbacks and restrictions, I plan to 'retire' in SW NC. Cherokee (Murphy)- Clay (Hayesville) Graham-(Robbinsville) or Swain-(Bryson City) counties.

New England is out. New hampshire is a bit of an exception in terms of taxes, but as a region this is the most expensive area of the country in which to live (right up there with urban California), and the southern New England states have virtually no legal places to wheel. Maine, Vermont and New Hampshire are nice places to visit, and even to live if you can find a decent job, but that's rather unlikely.

I've lived here all my life and I'm leaving ASAP.

Thanks for welcoming me.

Right now, I work in the foodservice industry. It's the easiest job to get when relocating. I've also worked at a tire shop, furniture factory, radio station, and a bookstore. Pretty much anything that pays the bills.
Living requirements. Just a place to put my stuff and park the XJ.
I'm familiar with rural living. Spent 12 years in WV and 10 more in the Martinville/Henry Co. VA area. I made a few road trips to western NC/ eastern TN when I lived in Raleigh. I love that area. My friend has never been there and wants to see it eventually.

I've never been to the NE area but, wouldn't mind visiting. I have an aunt outside of Buffalo, NY and she's always talking about the high cost of living in NE. There's a lot of California and NE transplants in the Reno area. Low cost of living and zero state tax might play into that. I love it here but, have a desire to explore. But, I might come back to this area once I feel the need to "settle down".
