Hey Yall,

I've just found this great forum !!!!! I have just started building my first XJ. I've been wheelin' for years and have built other rides but not an XJ. I've only completed the engine so far. If any of you have any suggestions on lifts, lockers, gears etc. please let me know what you suggest !!Thanks

welcome to the board, you'll get lots of good info here.

a lot of people are over in the alpharetta/marietta/roswell/kennesaw area. i'm on the other side of the state over in athens. it's nice during football season though, uga is about 10 minutes from my house.

Ive got an 87 XJ Im planning on a 4.5 Rusty's lift, 32" TSL's, Quick DC's Revolver Shackles and Lockrights F&R. Yall are the XJ pros what do yall think.....Give me your thoughts and suggestions !!! Thanx

Hmm TSL's with do the job Rusty's sounds nice but i have a 4.5 RE and love it. Lockers sounds good. But TSL's are good in mud and all depends on what you want to do. But Swamper are as loud as balls on the road have a real nice howling sound to em but some people like that i guess.Well good luck with the XJ project glad to have ya aboard.

If you don't already have the "volvers" I wouldn't get em. Unless you want them cuz they're "cool". You really won't need em with the rest of the stuff you're doing. Only other things I would suggest that you didn't mention, are lower gears and lots of protection. Good front and rear bumpers and definately rocker protection. Welcome to THE best XJ/MJ site in the world. You're definately on the right track. See ya in the rocks!

Do the revolvers actual allow more articulation? Im building bumpers and I just scored a warn 9000 for $300. Where I live there is more mud which I dont plan to stay in alot but I want a tire the can handle mud and rocks. What do yall think about the MT Claws or what is a good combo tire ?

Peraonlly I run SS they work in all terrain and Had no problems with them in Moab...Revolvers do not allow more Articulations they just let the body roll more and from those I have seen on rigs just let you flip it easier. I have not known anyone who had MT Claws that is happy with them...Know about 5 who boutght then went back to SS

I find that BFG Mud Terrains work pretty well in mud and on rocks. I get good traction on both. They good thing is they aren't as expensive as boggers and other tires and have less road noise. Thats my 2 cents.

Not sure on price...but I can get 34x10.50 SS for $125 mounted and balance for the life of the tire at a Local place last time I check prices...

i personally like BFG muds for all around performance & ride quality,,

[cough-cough]
btw after 2 trips to tellico in July i'll have a set of 33x10.5 bfg muds for sale & the 15x7 black crawlers they're mounted on (less than 1 yr old probly will have 10k miles on em by then)

if intersted or think you will be around August give me hollar & we can talk turkey..
ps, Glencoe is about an hour from Cedar town..

There are a couple of us down here in Savannah. There is a lot of good info on this site so just do searches and you will find everything you need. I personnally have had some bad expierences with rusty's stuff. I hope it is just my luck. RE stuff is really nice. Revolvers help a lot but you will have to run traction bar. You should anyway, XJs are hell for wheel hop. Good luck and welcome!
