I think the new forum idea discussion needs some narrowing down.

There seems to be three ways about going about this. I'll add a forth.

1. Fab Forum - Talking about all things made by us. No bolt on. This would include all fabricated stuff.

2. Advance Mod forum - Have a level of discussing only advanced or hardcore jeep parts. Would need to define these items prior to starting the forum. What is advance Mod tech?

3. Newbie Tech - have a new forum for entry level tech. IE "what size tire can I install on a 3" lift". Things such as this to allow the regular tech not be so cluttered for the less tolerant. A FAQ section could be included for them created by all the experts here.

4. (New idea) Theory Discussion - This would be a place for discussing ideas and theories of home fab projects. How much triangulation? Hidden suspension arms and how lame they are? Traction bars - real or just a myth? Real discussion on HOW or WHY to build stuff. Not a real "question" area but a "discussion" area.

The idea here is to get an idea which way this should be perused. I think this is the next logical step in creating this new forum, narrowing down the idea. Then when we get a good idea where the majority wants to go we can discuss some details.

I don't see the "need" of rushing this, I would like to see all of us work this out and do it as close to right as we can the first time with minor tweaks as needed. I love that the FAQ idea is taking off with members, getting involved is what has and will make this club WORK!

I'm a bit stuck. Frankly, I would like to see a Theory forum, so I voted for it, but I also think that an Advanced mod forum would be a great addition to the site. The 'newbie tech' I'm not so sure about, I can't imagine too many people are going to consider themselves newbies and perhaps skip it to go right to the other forums, but at the same time, I think that something like it is really needed. Maybe I'm just stuck on the name, if it was 'basic mod' or 'introductory mod' tech or something... It would also be nice to have a straight Fab forum that only covers things actually made by users, so clearly I'm not really any help right now! I know that at some point this whole thing is going to become quite unwieldy for moderators, but I really think there could be a use for all of those forums as additions to the site.

I'd like to be able to vote for combinations of these four and would like to toss these questions out for discussion.
By having separate Fab and Advanced Mod forums would we then allow the beginner stuff in Fab? ie, fender trimming, rails, and skid plates?
Also, would we still need a new noob tech forum? Wouldn't the standard tech forum just kinda become that since the advanced stuff would now go elsewhere?
I like the theory idea. It'd be cool to have a place to brainstorm ideas.

I'd like to start it out as two forums: a Basic Mod forum and an Advanced Mod forum. Then after some time we can evaluate its effectiveness and make adjustments as needed.

why not just start an "Advanced Mod-Tech" forum now as members only, and let it "evolve" into what we want? I think after a few weeks it would become easier to decide what we want to limit content too, and if we want it to be totally, partially, or not at all available to non-members.

Interesting idea... but what would the creationists think? :gag:

I think that is a fine idea. We have good thoughts, ideas, and a basic understanding of what folks want.... but I think we may be getting bogged down in "polls" and over-analysing such a simple task.

I miss the old days... before the BOD decided to micro-manage every aspect of the site. Once upon a time.... it would just happen. :)

Hinkley would never go for it. He's sure he's God.

I have to agree, we do not have to decide on all the aspects right away.

Rome was not built in a day (or was that burnt in a day).

option 2: and in the guidelines for it, you could include theory in the same forum, since it will most likely be advanced tech as well

I do not follow. Rock Rash had nothing to do with Shanna.

Shanna was fine, other that a few vocal cry babies, it was a ton of fun.

I think I said enough, we don't need to go there again. :nono:

No doubt. Too many got freaked out last time. :gag:

Agreed, we can start it as member only just to get it going and see what we want and don't want.
