Just thought Id see what you guys thought about this.. Im starting to manufacture these. They should be available soon, probably altered a bit from the way you see it now. It will be available with or without a cup holder and anodized in blue, red, grey, gold or black. It will also be available in a black crinkle powder coat and maybe a few other powder coat colors depending on demand. Let me know what you guys think. This will be one of the places that I will be marketing this product and wouldnt mind some feedback.

These pics are of the prototype which is unfinished at this point. It is specifically made to match up to a 98 XJ door panel but im sure it will fit just about anything. It measures about 18 inches wide, 2.5 inches deep and 5 inches tall.

If you have any specific questions go ahead and post up here or send me a PM or email to [email protected]

Damn that's cool!!!

I was actually thinking of re-using my old Mazda Pickup door pockets....

I took them off when I made new panels, and meant to put them back on before I sold it. They are about that size......

those are damn nice door pockets, its a good use of wasted space and we all know that there is alot of that in an xj. Btw, your tires are mounted wrong, the choppy side should be on the inside.....

The tires were cheepies to get me by till I get a real tire under there, and I didnt wanna have the whitewalls out. :) I knew I mounted them backwards. Good eye though.

They attach via machine screws and washers. The door will be drilled and a template will be included for easy layout. Ive toyed with the idea of using a commercial grade double sided tape but Id have to experiment with that to see how well it would hold up.

Two things, first, put drain holes in it, second, the screws look like they need some kind of special contortionist screw driver, put holes in there so you can go straight in or use slotted holes so you can screw the screws in and push then drop the pocket down. Othewise they look good.

It has slots on either end that would drain anything that would get in there but adding holes to the bottom is a great idea. I will most likely be doing some sort of a punchout array on the front of the pocket. THe machine screws tighten extremely easily from the rear with a small nut driver. The punchout array will allow a screwdriver to be inserted to get at the screw heads if you find that necessary. Keep it comin, I really appreciate the feedback. The design isn't 100% set in stone yet so all of your input will definately help lead to the final product.

At 2 1/2" D it will not readily accept a pop/beer can . I just measured a couple and they are 2 5/8" diameter. Most small water bottles exceed 2 1/2 also. I'd go to 3" D provided the seat doesn't cause interference.

I like Rich's idea about the slotted screw holes, that way you don't have to screw around with door panel other than laying down a pattern for drill marks for the screws, install screws, slide on pocket.

How hard would it be to keep it that shape, but add a bulge on the leading end to fit a soda can or 20 oz bottle?

Its already in the mix. Im working on the prototype that has a cup holder at the front big enough to fit a gatorade bottle. Thats a 3.75 inch opening. The rest of it will stay the same size so a soda can wont slide all the way to the back. Ill get pics of that one up as soon as I get it finished.

What would you guys think of having 45 degree angles at the ends rather than the radius? It should give it a more rugged look.
