Anyone heard or seen anything on this?

On what?

Are you intimating that DaimlerChrysler may be thinking of introducing a new abberation under the Comanche name?

Yea hearsay from a freind......

said someone was talking about reading it somewhere. Thought I would ask the pros! The only thing I have heard about is the 4 door Wrangler and the AAM axle switch that may or may not be coming.

You can check into the new Scrambler rumor, thats the closest I've heard to a new truck. Although bringing back the J-trucks would be really sweet too. There was a rumor about the AAM axle swap in the new JP or Four Wheeler I cant remember which. They mentioned that since the Rams are adopting them its possible Jeep will too.

Is the axle switch related to the rumored demise of Dana? I've only heard a little about that... seems unlikely that Dana would go out of business though!

Looks like I'll have to re-read the new Jp that showed up in my mailbox the other day...

If only DCX would quit trying to market what should rightly be called a Dodge (or perhaps "Abortion" would be better?) under the Jeep moniker... The Liberty should really have been released as a companion to the Durango, and not under the Jeep marque...

5-90

The scrambler was set to go into production as a 2005 model but I heard they canned it a few weeks ago. A new j-truck would be awsome but in all reality would probably end up being a re-badged ram. The classic image of jeep is fading and vehichles with IFS are the future of jeep :( The 2005 grands are IFS and a few jeep concepts have had IRS. It's sad that jeep started the "trail rated" promotion with their least capable line up in history. Oh well, I guess we'll just have to start importing chinese jeeps ;)

That entire "trail rated" thing is a load of bovine excrement anyway. Worth about as much as "5 Star" dealer status.

Rather than take the new vehicles out and embarrass themselves on the Rubicon Trail the way they did with the Libby, DCX now has an "independent" testing agency certify that Jeep vehicles meet the requirements for the "Trail Rated" moniker.

Of course, the criteria for the test are proprietary, so we don't know what they are or how well they reflect true off-road capability (hint: probably not very well, or they wouldn't have bothered). More to the point, since the test criteria are secret, nobody can test any other vehicle or brand to see how well it/they measure up against the Jeep yardstick.

I suppose they trademarked the "Trail Rated" slogan, so nobody else can use it. The test may be no more difficult than being able to drive over a wooden yardstick laid flat on a gravel driveway. They have an independent lab certify that their vehicles pass the test, and they slap the badge on. IMHO, unless they release the criteria and allow people and companies to test other vehicles against the same criteria, it doesn't mean anything. No way is "Trail Rated" a viable substitute for actually driving (not towing) a stock vehicle through the Rubicon Trail.

Smoke and mirrors.

Yeah! What the hell are they tring to pull with all this "Trail Rated" crap anyway. Probably as trail rated as a Cayenne or TOWrag.

Conversation at DC: "Oh look! We got it to pull up on the hauler without scaping!" "Yea, I bet that's the equivalent of a 2 rated trail. Wait a minute, let's call them trail rated! We'll sell millions!"

Sheesh. Sign me up.

"Through a combination of natural and
CONTROLLED FIELD TESTS, as well as
COMPUTER SIMULATED ENVIRONMENTS,
Jeep Trail Rated provides a repeated and consistent measurement for all Jeep vehicles.

I love my Jeep, but this is deplorable

Dana is talking about a merger/buyout with ArvinMeritor. Arvin is supposed to make struts, shocks, and exhaust, but I've never heard of them. I'm not sure what effect a buyout would have on us, although if you wanted to name your kid after Jeep parts "Dana" beats "Arvin" hands down.

The ArvinMeritor buyout fell through a couple of days ago. I just heard the Dana is trying to sell off most of their replacement parts business so that they can focus on frames, axles, and commercial equipment. Plus, they are closing eight more facilities. Things don't look good for Dana right now.

Oh my gawd. What a joke! Those trails might be a challenge for my wife's 626. It almost looked as if they stopped the video just short of seeing the Grand hydrolock and the Lib go submarine.

good thing the arvinmeritor deal fell through the company i used to work for sold their stuff untill we realized it was junk, would have hated to see dana go like that. Unfortunately Dana doesnt have too many options but if they sold off their Wix line to a competitor that would help quite a bit. JMO
