Do you value the second amendment? Then I think we all need to say NO to HR 1022 which will "ban many more guns, not just features, going so far as to ban WWII era rifles such as the M1 Garand and semi-automatic shotguns."

Please sign this e-petition:

You can read more about HR 1022 at the above like, too.

And if you REALLY care about HR 1022, make sure to call or write your congresscritters.

Thank you and God Bless America!

My opinion? "Government should not be overthrown - it should be fired."

I've long had issue with people who think they know what's best for me - without bothering to meet me and try to understand me. Half of the time I hardly know what's best for me, how can they?

When it comes to "safety" and "security," we are each of us responsible for our own safety and security - simply because we're the only one with us all the time, and how can you expect someone else to keep us "safe" and "secure" if you're not willing to do the job yourself?

Besides, this isn't about "crime control" or anything else - I've not read the list fully, but most of the firearms that are being banned are a bit spendy to use in "street crime" anyhow. It's like the whole "machine gun" ban we've been dealing with for the last 73 years - all that time, and only one registered machine gun was used to shoot someone - and it was ruled a "clean shoot" anyhow. As I recall, it was an MDPD officer who used his person SMG (MAC-10?) to shoot someone who was a threat at the time (it's been a while since I've read the report, so I don't recall the details. However, I think it highlights the rarity of the incident. Note that I mention legal and registered machine guns - crooks usually get them without jumping through all the damn hoops that everyone else has to...)

If all these laws were about keeping crime under control, then the guy that owned the gun shop that LAPD went to in the North Hollyweird shootout a few years back wouldn't have been persecuted and imprisoned by ATF. Why did they go after him? He didn't hold the cop there to fill out the Forms 4473 before the firearms left the store. LAPD did the paperwork later, but it wasn't done with the timing that F Troop wanted.

This thread makes me want to hurry and get an M1 Gerand, and a Mini 14 pretty quickly.

If your really concerned about your 2nd amendment rights you should join the NRA and get involved. They are the strongest pro 2nd amendment lobby in the country.

The're are alot of people in this world that think banning guns from law abidding citizens will somehow reduce crime, (Adolf Hitler was one of them)when all it does is make easier targets for these criminals.

By 'criminals', you mean 'governments' too, right? ;)

Absolutely.
Don't get me wrong. I'm not anti-govt, but the truth of the matter is that the founders of our nation intended for us to have the right to bear arms. For them it was to guarantee protection from any Govt (or tyrant).

Sorry- Not trying to jack this thread.

I know that most law abiding people register their guns and that most criminals don't. I want to keep guns in citizens hands and I hope to never see the day when we can't. I'm strongly against such a ban.

I know an e-petition won't do squat besides make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. That's why I'll again stress to contact your elected reps. I mainly posted the link to raise awareness. And I bumped the thread because I felt this had some meaning to it and I wanted to make sure at least one other person understood. CONTACT YOUR REPS if you want to keep your second amendment rights.

I hadn't meant to say anything against you personally. The primarly thrust of the "people who know what's best for me" was against government.

The "Right to Keep and Bear Arms" presents a choice for the individual - and the individual can choose whether or not to exercise that right.

The flipside of that is, if you choose not to, don't come crying to be because it put your silly arse in a sling.

However, rights are, at their base level, all about choices - and taking that choice away is wrong, no matter how you look at it. While this isn't the "major" problem facing the world to-day, it's relatively minor - and can be "major" once you reduce the scope of it a bit ("minor" to the world, "major" to the United States. It's all about perspective.)

So, I really hadn't meant anything against you at all, and I categorically support any measure that reverses a ban of anything declared malum prohibitum ("wrong because WE SAY it's wrong." Not to be confused with malum in se - "the simple fact of it is wrong." Use the yardstick of malum prohibitum/malum in se to measure any law you run across - and you'll find that most of them are artificial constructs.)

I just wanted to make sure you understood where I was coming from.

In another thread, I'd said I "fear government" more than I "fear God." Why is that? The answer is simple - God has only given us 10 rules to follow, and they've been the same for two thousand years. Government is constantly changing the rules - what was allowed to-day may become streng verboten next week.

Any game where the rules can be changed at will is unfair.

Listen,
Gun "regulation" is merely the Feds trying to create a socialist environment. Democrats want a socialist vaccuum in which we pay in more and more money so they can spend it for us.....At least the speaker of the house......
As was previously stated,...criminals dont buy weapons legally and register them anyway. So all these do is give poll-a-ticians a warm fuzzy and hurt law abiding, tax paying, english speaking citizens.....

I found this letter online. I'm going to send it to my elected officials if anybody else wants it.
I'm sure you are aware that Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY) has
reintroduced, in the form of HR 1022, the Clinton semi-auto gun ban
that sunset a couple of years ago. The Justice Department reported
that the ban's impact on gun violence was small at best, and too
small to be statistically valid.

By contrast, states adopting concealed carry laws had significant
decreases in violent crime while states and cities maintaining strict
gun control laws continued to have the nation's highest rates of
violent crime.

I agree with Gun Owners of America that the only people affected by
the so-called "assault weapons ban" of 1994 were law-abiding gun
owners, manufacturers and importers. Clearly, this bill is nothing
less than an infringement on the rights of gun owners. And we won't
stand for it.

The supporters of HR 1022 will be identified as anti-gun Congressmen
and, hopefully, targeted for defeat at the next election. As your
constituent, I urge you to oppose this or any other gun grabbing bill
in the 110th Congress.
Billy

EDIT: Oh yeah, and go to http://www.congress.org/... on the left side, you can put in your zip/address to lookup your officials and contact them straight from their.

Go to the NRA website and learn more about how to support and defend your 2nd amendment rights. Donate a few dollars to help fight gun bans and the misinformation spread on TV news and in the newspapers.

What is gun registration?

It's the list government uses when it decides to confiscate your guns.

Glad I got my Garand, now I just need a few more, M1 Carbine, and AR-15, and M14 being some of them.

This issue goes alot further then banning guns. That is just the surface. They are trying to make a signifigant change to the constitution by completely eliminating the second amendment.
If that happens, what will stop them from eliminating other ammendments just because they feel like it???? Ponder that for a while.
