and what valving should i run out back? just as a rough idea...

Run 360/80 in the front and 275/78 in the rear

x2!!!

Everyone kept telling me 360/80 was too stiff but everyone who rode in my rig was amazed how nice it rode (RE long arm kit w/7100's). If you are gonna do the drop brackets....get RE. I've installed both RE and Rough Country and there is a difference.

By the way. Here is Jims rig when I met him.....Sorry Jim...had to!!! :kissyou:

mines looking just as skimpy right now.
ill get pics of her soon. so RE drop brackets and weld em in? cause im not gonna go long arm at all. ill just keep the DB's lol.

silverslk what coils are you using up front? and are you using your rig for go fast/jeepspeed type stuff?

I'm running the RE 7.5" coils and they are WAY to soft for the go fast stuff, it's a nice plush ride on the street or trails, but I will be upgrading to Deavers in the near future. Everyone likes to go fast....right :D

I had RE 5.5's that came with the kit and RE 4.5's out back with TnT's 1.5" boomerang shackle (back when it was heavy duty and a deal at $79.95). Everyone says the RE's are too soft now and I must have had the early ones that were made better, either way it did GREAT. I did indeed use my rig for go fast stuff. I sold it to a firend who took it to Wisconsin (probably climbing over downed trees now, haha). Here is a pic of how I sold it and another of what I bought and how it looks now....

I have some newish RE 5.5 springs on my junk and it rides great! Crazy Jim can vouch for that. My theory is that the springs hold your rig at the ride height you want, and do all of your damping with your shocks.

Good call Dan. I always wondered how everyone hates on RE but mine did great as well. It must be the shocks/valving.

x3 on the 360/80 front and 275/78 rear. I'm running 360/80 up front and 255/70 rear, wish I had gone 275 out back to keep it a wee bit stiffer back there.

Just curious what the difference is between the RE and RCX drop brackets... they both drop the geometry by around 4.5" so how can one ride any different then the other?

There is probably no difference in the ride between the two. The RE brackets run back under the trans crossmember giving a more secure mount. The RCX ones are shorter and they supply the kit with self tapping bolts (which don't hold and rip out). I just more surface area for mounting I guess.

the drop is somewhere withing 1/2"-1" of each other. the big difference is the reinforcement bracket behind the new mount. the RE one goes MUCH farther back. take a close look... it runs all the way back to the tranny crossmember mounts. idk that they would "ride" any different, but a firm argument in strength can be made. especially when applying to the go-fast crowd.

thanks guys...i guess im just deciding on valving now...
i know you guys are saying 360/90 front...but ive also here the RE 4.5" springs are stiffer than what most jeepspeed guys run...so idk ill search around some more and see..

i ride in my buddys xj all the times. but his is no help. hes running rancho 9k's out back with 3" AAL,, and re 4.5" up front with 1 bilstein 7100 and 1 fox 2.0 (not sure which valving)...to be honest his rigs does pretty well. the rear ends deffinetly holding it back though.

Thats the great thing about buying 7100's.....if you don't like the valving, you can change it. Just order the 360/80. I have a set of shims for a softer valve left from my 7100's. I know its under 360/80 but not sure which one. I'll try to find out.

alright guys i think i got my list down.
besides for rear bumps, im still searching those!

Suspension:
RE 3.5" coil spring (241lbs/inch)
RE 3.5" rear leafs (until i get deavers)
RE lca
RE uca
RE HD track bar
RE track bar brace
RE track bar bracket brace
Currie steering (drag link/tie rod)
RC drop brackets
Bilstein 7100 10" (360/80 front,275/78 rear)
Prothane bump stops (until i get air bumps)

anything you guys think im missing?

Chassis/Drivetrain:
HD offroadengineering frame stiffener set (front, middle, rear)
Currie tubular frame stiffeners

should i get a steering box brace?
any other sugestions on frame bracing?

thanks lol dont know why i didnt post it...but yes it was written down...
i posted that at 4ish in the morning...trying to get everything order and stuff...hoping to have the rig built by jan 23. my bday.

anything else you guys think i forget or anything?

Hm ok. I welded mine in place so I didn't know they were prone to ripping out the self tappers.

If strength is an issue it would be hella easy to make new (longer) reinforcement brackets. Especially if you have unibody stiffeners in place and you're already welding the drop brackets in... it's just a simple piece of 1/4" flatbar at that point.

True...I'm not sure of cost between the two but for someone with no access to welder/fabricator that additional work "might" make up the difference. haha
