Hey Guys,

I'm in need of a working NP242 before a road trip coming up next week, and I thought I would see if anyone might have one they are willing to part with.

My current TC is in need of a rebuild and I won't have time to get it together before we are suppose to leave. Still works but the front output bearing is making noise and vibes and I don't want to take it 2k miles like that.

located in Santa Cruz, Ca can meet anywhere within a 100 or so miles

I have one. I can bring it home tomorrow to pleasanton from Reno. Only thing is there is no slip yoke in it. Complete ly stock

How involved is pulling the slip yoke from mine and installing in another case? I am kind of hoping for a plug and play option until I can just rebuild mine.

I have no clue I switched to a 231 so I have the stock one and I think I still have the stock driveshaft too

What year xj is your np242 out of and are you sure it is in good working order? I'm going to do a quick search, if its as easy as slipping the slip yoke over the output shaft I'm in.

If you just need the front yoke bearing you can swap your internals into his case the difference should be the 23 spline input instead of the 21 of the 89. Case it's self is the same but with that said y not see about pressing a new bearing in if you will already have the case pulled

Or swap over to a 231!

Thanks for the suggestion, my whole deal is that I don't have a lot of time or talent to dig into a TC before going on this trip. I'd like to find an NP242 that will be a bolt in replacement for the time being. I like my 242 for mountain roads and ice.

That being said if a 242 with an SYE and a driveshaft turns up I'd be more than happy to give it a new jeep. Otherwise I'll run the new 242 while I rebuild the old and install an SYE.

Hmmf dont recognize your rig but hard to tell from a tiny avatar thing..

I'm in SC too man

Hey, yup in SC too. I don't think I recognize your rig either unless you happen to be the XJ often parked on Bay st. Then I see it pretty frequently. I haven't really been involved much in the santa cruz xj community, good to hear from another naxja member in town!
