need to change sig...

I have a sig. set up, yet when I tried to modify it, it says that I'm not allowed to have a sig. It only seems to work when I send a PM. I'd like to change it, but if I'm not allowed to have it, then I would just assume have it be deleted so that it doesn't show up when I PM someone. Thanks for the help!
