ok i have my 88.
and i have the 99

i have 2 kids now and im REALLY thinking about thinning out my herd of rides.

the 88 is my last choice to send away seeings how it hold more sentimental value than anyone but me can understand.

the big jeep is my bad ass toy. its not so family friendly being a 2 door.

here is where yalls opnions come in. do i keep both rigs, off the big one as she sits, or strip her down and transfer all the bad ass ness to old blue.

the fundage made off the big jeep would be towards a stroker and a built aw4 and some heavier axles.

i dont HAVE to cut one its just a thought.

old blue:

so one is a towed and other is driven?

Why is the 2 door less family friendly? How old are the little ones? Or are they big ones? I have 12 year old twin boys and they ride with me in mine without a problem. Of course we have only been out on 2 trips this year due to unforeseen circumstances. If ti was me I'd ditch the old and keep the new.

nope both are drivers. i have a diesel burb that is the family/toy hauler but doubles as my secondary DD. the 88 needs a new front axle so has been "down" for a short while. still drivable just a little scary lol (dont ask)

well the 2 door is not friendly because one kid is 5 and the other is 7 weeks. the kids dont ride in the big one because the car seats dont fit in and out easily.

I'd say...trade me the rims off ol blue and call it a day.:dunno: JJ

With kids that small, definetly keep the 4 door. Personally, I hate to see those big axles go under it, but it makes more family sense that way. The '99 will still be a nice item even with stock axles under it. It would bring a better price stock than the '88 IMO.

But should you decide to trade rims.....let me know!

no. no no no no no no no no no no no the rims are sooo not going anywhere.

but hey thanks for playing ;)

now i understand how the 4 door is a good choice. and i think the ole girl would look bad ass all dressed out on full widths and such. and the big jeep IF i were going down that road would get a hp 30 and a 44 under her. oh fun fact the big one is a 5 spd. kinda rare from what i hear. and MAYBE youd get the rims lol

Hahahaha!!:roflmao::D

OMFG.....
Keep the 2dr.... Or hell, Ill take it off your hands somehow... 8)
I love seeing built and owner loved 2drs.... down in my area theyre gettin harder and harder to find... hell I hadda drive 4.5hrs to get mine that I just picked up a few months ago.... 8(
But Def keep her.
I mean I know this is the "young Non kids guy coming out in me", but My roomate has a 2yr old and we haul her around in my 2dr at least once or twice a week and have no probs getttin her seat in and out...
II mean its up 2 you, I would get the 4dr gone and keep going deeper in the 2dr.... but thats just IMO.

Subscribed.... wanna see where this ends up. 8(

the 4 door is the only thing my dad ever GAVE to me. it will be the LAST thing to go im the event i have to sell off my rides.

dont get me wrong i LOVE my 99. its is a beast. more so that i had ever thought it would be. i find visions of a cage, stiffeners, chop top nesting in my mind daily, and gents i promise you that there are not any serious plans in the works to sell off the "icky truck".

this was a strangly serious thought i had and naturally i came to my fellow XJ nuts to see what yall thought.

but hey who knows....... ;) keep up the thoughts i dig the feed back :D

Gotcha man. Well in that case I understand the 4dr....
But yea, Id keep em both if you could... build big black up and ride the hell outta her... lol I hate seeing people get rid of 2drs or tearing em down... 8(
But yea, I def dig the cage and the stiff, but PLEASE dont chop er... she's a beaut and would look sooooo much better liks she is... 8)
But ultimately your decision, I just dont like people choppin new ones... get ya an older 2dr like mine if ya wanna chop er.... lol
But just imo.
Keep us posted and happy jeepin~Paul:wave:

Keep them both.

In a short while (it goes fast) the little one will be in a front facing seat...and then you're golden with the 2 door.

I actually think it just as easy to get into and out of the 2 door and the 4 door. I'm 6'3" and can stoop into my 2 door to get to my kids easily.
With my little girl (she's 20 months now) we used a base with the detachable rear facing seat. CAKE in any vehicle. Even my 5'1" wife could snap her in and out of our CJ5 that way...and now she can't reach to buckle her into her fwd facing seat.

If it were me and I wasn't paying outrageous insurance on either of them and they are both paid for then keep both of them.

As long as you can keep from ordering more and more parts for them they aren't costing you much to sit there...

but if they are then just sale me the 88 for a deal and we're good to go.

well the first statement is true for me. i own em both and they aren't all that expensive

stop ordering parts?!?!?! i...dont...understand this......concept.....

hey now.....the 88 has a new owner....hes 5 and lives in my house. cant reach the pedals but its cool :D

I'm a 50 -year-old-Dad. I'd like to know my grandkids are driving around in the old Jeep I gave my son. If you sell it and keep the other he'd get the message his wasn't good enough, I think. When you have grand-kids you'll understand. Even now, if you gave your old blue XJ to your oldest son and he ditched it for another one, how'd you feel? It aint about the Jeep, it's about Dad's gift. Show him you really appreciate it. Run it until it takes it's last breath...and then hand it down to YOUR son to restore.

Timmy, what kind of wheeling do you expect to be doing in the next couple years? I think with the youngin's and your current location, it's going to be extremely difficult to get to extremely challenging locations.

I would consider selling the 2dr outright, and definitely keeping old blue. As it sits, it is more than capable enough to go to the beach and have fun on trails at URE and Gulches. You could add some basic armor, or possible a lunchbox to make sure you ride the trails and drive home with no worries.

What Nick said.

There are so many times I wish mine was stock or just had a BB with 31's. They are so much fun for day to day use, plus easier for the kids. Besides that XJ has some sentimental value.

I vote to keep old blue.

keep both. its nice being able to wheel a capapble dd or load up in the big one and takle the hard stuff
