1974 Dodge Powerwagon/ plow edition..

I'm thinking this sucker has a 360...

Went to crank it up, sucker cranked 2nd try, rand great... let it idle for a few... hop in it, drive down to the end of the driveway to turn it around to plow..

Get to the end, sucker starts actin like it wants to die, I even put the pedal to the floor, still dies...

Now it won;t crank... I can turn the ignition, let the starter keep going, and its fireing and cranked, but as soon as I let off the starter it dies... it only "runs" when I have the starter going...

WTF?

This has happened 3 times, all the same thing, even when i just let it idle for 15 minutes, it slowly starts sputtering and dies

Look on the firewall for a ballast resistor, it's white rectangular block with two wires, one at each end. Common on chryslers and jeeps too. On dodge vans it was kinda behind the master cylinder.

nvm, musta been the carb icing up.. got her goin

The 360's of that era had a crossover in the intake manifold, right where the choke spring sits in the intake, seen a lot of them that still had the casting sand in them blocking the air as it heats up and the chokes never worked right.
Oh, and carry a spare ballast resistor, if it did not go this time it will. I used to carry two after the first one went on me down in wildwood NJ one sunday.

Rich pretty much hit the nail on the head, put some hight temp. grease into the choke mechanism. Maybe a can of deicer into the tank and a can of carb, cleaner probably wouldn't hurt either. Oil most anything that moves on the carb.
If it keeps up, you may have to change the fuel and/or clean out the float bowl.
I have a fairly complete library on those trucks, FSM's, military, civilian and the complete parts manual. I also have a chit load of parts.

I ended up pulling the intake and cleaning it out with a screwdriver and some picks, there was a lot of crap in that crossover, it was packed solid, no wonder no hot air was crossing over and it took till the whole intake manifold heated up instead of just that one area surrounding the spring.
