Need help finding a spring for the rear parking brake.

Does anyone have an idea where to find the spring that goes on the end of the parking brake strut on a 44? It should be the same for a 35. I circled it in red. No one locally has the spring, by itself or in a hardware kit.

Thanks, but I've got a fair grasp for the obvious myself. I'm looking for a new one. There are some things you do NOT replace with what you started with.

Anyone have any experiance with an internet supplier that has unusual or rare parts?

When I rebuilt my brakes on my D44 that spring was available from Autozone as a TJ or YJ part (seperate piece) and wasn't listed for XJ's. If memory serves me the spring was painted sky blue.

I just brought one of my old rusty ones in and the guy knew what I was talking about.

I may still have the parts bag around...I'll go take a look.

I reused my brake parts box for left over parts from the SOA conversion I did on my MJ. I don't have the bags anymore, sorry.

Crown Automotive says the p# (8350 4310) is available but can't be viewed on their online catalog. AutoZones web site has something called a brake return spring listed for 87 Wranglers, but no corresponding pictures P# (H132) for about 3.50, which seems to be what I paid.

Good luck!

pic no worky... is this the retrun spring that is below the axle shaft and works with the self-adjuster and cable??
my local parts shop sells a self-adjuster kit with that additional hardware for like $12... i just redid all my rear brakes and everything was available. see if you can find a parts shop that carries AC-Delco parts..

EDIT.. the pic came up after i posted this.. my hardware kit didnt come with that spring either... but luckily i had the old ones..

Mike, the pic comes up for me, but I did have issues at first. Not sure- 1st time I posted a pic. I used the site Rob posted in the "Introduce Yourself" post. No, it's the one that is on the end of the horizontal bar that contacts the primary (front facing) shoe and the parking brake lever that is attached to the secondry shoe and the breake cable. The bar runs just about across the two upper axle flange retainer nuts. I've been using the one's on the 35 since I can remember, but one on the 44 broke. So, it's time I find a new one since all the rest of the hardware and springs are new. A chain is only as good as it's weakest link you know.

Thanks Matt. I'll look into it. I couldn't find the part in the Crown .pdf catalog I have, but did find the same number in the Morar parts catalog for the 44. It is the same on all 44s apparently for don't-know-what-year CJ-7s, and 87-95 YJs.

Found 'em. What a great parts guy our local Jeep dealer has... comming from a distribution center in another state, not the usual Boston DC.

Matt, Autozone didn't have any of thier H132 at a store even remotely close to me. But thanks anyhow.

I was able to pick up a complete XJ D44 brake rebuild kit from Napa.

They may have had to order it special, I don't remember. Yes, spring is red/purple. Lots of spring colors with that kit. What the hell does the color matter? That spring is one of a kind to the brakes.

The parts places around here don't do well with detailed descriptions of a piece. They work by part # and not by brain. When I was forcing the parts guy to think (he didn't want to) he finally got it figured out by the color.

Looks like they can be pretty much any color though...

the coloring of brake springs is (at least it used to be) an industry standard since alot of vehicles will use the same springs it goes back to the 60s or even earlier when the dealers and shops would by boxes of the same springs rather than specific brake kits. back when every thing had drum brakes.. hell most places dont even ask for the shoes to be returned for a core-charge.
