Need Good v-8 conversion for xj

holy sh*t! this got serious rather quick huh? well i am from texas and we all arn't necks down here.i think you pissed every one off by saying the 4.0 sucks.i believe the 4.0 will do what your v8 will if your pockets are deep enuff. have you looked into a wrecked zj for a swap. good luck with the swap :repair: p.s when you say the 4.0 blows....your telling a few thousand people there eng is shit......that tends to strike a note.

The 4.0L only blows when it has a blower . :)

Thanks for the info i will check out that site. I am not a huge fan of the 4.0 and all its problems. i would rather aleviate the problem and jsut put a small block 390 or 401 in instead and get the same gass mileage for a big h.p increase i dont hot rod but i do play n the mud so the h.p will help thanks for asking. I am going to retire the old engine it has about 159,000 on it and some blow by and a minor knock when the engine is cold but nothing major. It still runs good i just have sesor isues and it idols like crap and loads up on idol.

I hate to resurect a 4 year old quote, but I hope you're not talking about AMC 390s and 401s... The 4.0 has its problems, but if you've ever run an AMC V8, you'd retract your statement about a swap like that aleviating any problems with the 4.0 :)

Buy stock in Dizzy gears or take the time to rebuild and upgrade the oiling system.

I love this thread...all the nay sayers...

I am just waiting for parts on my AMC 360 swap...Dying to get it in.

I mean 4.0, 2.5, 5.9, whatever if it is from Jeep and it suits your needs.

Hi IcedXJ... what about the cooling of your AMC 360? What radiator did you used? Did you need a transmission radiator?

thks

Pardon the mess.. I've been meaning to get in there and loom up all the wiring, but it hasn't happened yet. Between EFI and N2O there's quite a mess of wires.

It's an old beater, function before form. I've got plans to straighten it up, paint etc, just hasn't happened yet.

One chunk at a time. Bought Hedman headers for the flanges and cut them down until I just had flanges and stubs. They're 1 3/4 stepped to 1 7/8 with 3.5 collectors.

Hey I would like to put my 2 cents in. I had this 350 rebuild from the bottom up. Flat aluminum pistons, RV cam, milled 305 heads for a CR of 9.25:1. In the middle of modifying some headers to fit. I am SO close. Hope these pictures help somebody in need. Has been a long process getting this beast going. Check out my facebook pics and let me know what you think. http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2022849&id=1246860553&saved

Wow, that looks almost like my 86 that I dropped a 5.7 Vortec into. It's been a 2 year project but it's almost done now.

What did you use for PS hoses? How about AC hoses?

For info on my XJ, just Google PalmerXJ
