need a very economical and small flat panel monitor

we're updating our tri-coder bar code reader thingy, and sill-diddy is looking for some flat-panel monitors.

small as possibile, 12" monitors?

he found a 15" for like 300 bucks, but that's nutz.

there's gotta be something closer to what we need.

we googled pretty hard, couldn't find anything.....

who's got a good lead?
 
Take a look at an electronics store, something that does odds and ends (like salvage adn the like). I know there's a good one in L.A., but that doesn't do you much good :)

I'll try to remember a couple of sources I have on the web..I know I've seen exactly what you're looking for...

Hey Beezil, are those $300 monitors free standing with casings? Or are they naked LCD panels?

LCD's are kind of a rip off for most, you need one with a good warranty as they are non repairable. pricewatch and price scan may show a few but from doing laptop repairs those screens are not cheap no matter how you buy them and I get them for cost.
You could hunt for 'seconds' that have mutiple pixels that are bad but they are hard to find.
Went into staples the other day for a 'need it right now' purchase, not a single CRT in stock and the cheapest LCD was $399, cost more than the intel MB, processor, 256mb of ram and the ati video card it was for, sheesh... Bought a black Mistuishi 20" for $189 at bestbuy.
What you could do is buy a Dell or Gateway 'special' that has a LCD bundled in then go buy a CRT monitor for it and side track the LCD for what you want.
