I need a few of these to install my t-case skid hopefully before the trail clean-up. If anyone can help me out please PM me!

I'll try Ace but didn't see them at lowe's anywhere. I also tried Rural King and Menards but no luck either.

They goin' into sheet metal or mild steel? I've made what I needed before - take some SAE8 screws, and grind a small angled flat at the point (if you want to be really thorough, you grind the end to be a bit more conical than it is from the factory, and let the bevelled threads pick up the tap. You'll still want to do an extended flat at one point for clearance tho - it doesn't always "form" the thread.)

They are going into the unibody. I have a rusty's t-case skid i need to get installed.

You'd probably be better off backing them up with nuts and washers, then.

If you want to make your own tapper, you still can. Taper out the last 2-3 threads (like a standard tap,) and grind a flat through the next 1, maybe 2.

I've never tried this in anything less than 1/8" thick, tho - which is why I was asking what it was going into. The SAE8 homemade tapper works rather well going into aluminum or mild (not hardened, 10xx or 11xx) steel tho - it's a useful quick option. I'll usually use a fine thread - more surface to grip, and less grinding to do. Just make sure you use the right size hole first - drill like you were going to tap the hole using a regular tap.

I've had a couple people tell me Ace Hardware so i'll go there when i get going in the morning. If not I'll call JCR on monday and see if they can help me out!

Before you go nuts looking for them, there is a big distinction between "self tapping" and "self drilling". You will most likely not find a self tapping screw anywhere in that size (hardware stores only carry up to 1/4"), because of the assumption that with a screw like that is that there is no pilot hole. A self drilling screw looks like a wood lag bolt, with coarse threads and a hex head. This is what you want, and they are easy to find and will work the way you want.

Aaron go out to Fastenal on the North side of town on 31 by the new Napa. I have got them there before.
Cardboard

I got them from Fastenal before. They had them in stock.

Fastenal wouldn't sell them to me by the piece they would only sell them in Bulk. I found some that will work i'm throwing the skid plate on tonight.

What did you end up getting and where? I need to install my t-case skid, too.
I got what MrShaft was referring to. I found them at a local hardware store.

Right on, I just used some for bolting up some rock rails, they hold very well.

Yeah i left mine that we had left over out at a buddy's house when i threw mine on. He is looking in his barn for them.

For anyone else needing these, I ended up finding some at Tractor Supply that I think will work. They are 5/16" x 3/4" long with a hex head. Labeled as sheet metal screws and packaged individually at $0.49 each. Would be a rip off if I needed more than a few...
