p.s. if you look in SKIMs pics that he posted, thats me on the right with the hood open :)

hey everyone had a great time yesterday (its sunday now) great to meet you even though I can't remember all your name it's cool to see so many XJ's nuts in one spot. My buddy in the sami felt out of place. I was happy to catch up to you guys in time to have lunch on top of the hill. Sorry I missed all the fun in the "jungle" maybe next time!!!! Hope everyone made it home safely and in one piece?? Sounds like some of you had a adventure out there. Thanks Bryan for starting the thread looking forword to the next trip.....BroDave

I have a few vid I'll post later.

It was an awesome run guys, thanks.

I got 2 miles from my house and the bolt holding the RE gen 2 sway bar disco sheared, and fell off. :(

So there was carnage from the trip. All else is well.

Super fun run guys. I split off alittle after the flop. Found a gulley with some hill climbs where I broke my drive shaft bolt and my passangerside ujoint and shaft. My friend took some video and I will try to post it up.

Thanks Ed for the extinguisher, but that is alittle funny. And thanks all for the help getting my shaft out

I had my jeep all ready and everything on Friday, but I woke up on Saturday at 11 unbelievably hung over! I spent the day lying on the lawn while they dug a pool. Very disappointed to miss this, I have not been to holister in almost 2 years and it looked like a great trip.

Big thanks to Bryan for setting this up, even if I never got a chance to wheel with you I had a good time.
Nice to see the large group show up!

I put my junk on it's side a few times, forgot how hard that "B!tch" trail can get. It was a good thing that only two of us ran up that creek, we had to pull the string out more then once to get up the trail with a larger group it would have been a LONG day. I did not snap a photo, but I think Mark did, I will post up if he gets me copies.

My carnage was that I drove over my winch controler on the way out. :banghead:

When's the next run?

So not too long after I peeled off to 880. At least you made it within walking distance.

Here are a few pictures. It was a great run, though I'm suffering from sunburn today. Nothing really broke, but my Jeep is making some strange noises that I need to investigate. For more pictures, click the link.

Not a good day for me. Ran one trail in the obstacle course and got stuck and must've landed on my exhaust in the process. Took me hours to figure out my downpipe was hitting my front driveshaft when the suspension would compress after tearing a lot of the front end apart. Then pulled my front shaft out and went to putt around in 2wd and blew some kind of seal in the motor almost imediately. Oil everywhere. Ended up having to drive to Gilroy to get a trailer, drive back to Hollister, load up my XJ and drive home to San Jose, and then back to Gilroy to drop off the trailer. Thanks to whoever pulled my out of the log jam area at the obstacle course. I was the gray XJ with the light bar on top and the Rigid Co front bumper. I talked to a couple guys for a few minutes about the bumper but have no idea who you were, so if you were wondering, that was me.

That is exactly what we wer attempting when this happened:

good times:flame:

Thanks to everyone who came out. This has to rank up near the top of all time Hollister runs. Never got a full count, but I think there were at least 15 XJs driving around Hollister on Saturday. I had a great time, and it was nice to meet a few of you guys for the first time.

The day started out with us watching the action in the obstacle course rock/mud pit and the frame twister/log pit. I thought about trying it but backed out when I saw all the mud. Yuk.

Around 11 we headed out to run the jungle trail. As soon as we got on the trail there was a broken blazer with a sheared off steering arm. They needed about a half hour to get him out of the way. So we backed up a bit and took the side access road and headed off to run white-rock. That is hwere the trouble started. The group got split up with me at the front. I waited a few minutes and decided to head back to see what was going on. Turns out my nephew Jason got caught in a small off camber spot and started to slide sideways. Apparently he punched it and drove up the side of the hill and flipped him right on his side. By the time I got back the group had already rolled him almost back over. With some help from a guy in a TJ we were able to hold him with a winch while he drove out of the spot he was in. He wound up with a cut hand from the roof panel. 1slowX's girlfriend got Jason's hand all cleaned up and we finally headed off to run white-rock. Thanks to everyone who helped get his rig back on 4 wheels.

I didn't get any pics of the roll, but I got a first aid action shot though.

This was the spot that got him:

White rock was night and day for some of those who tried it. I and a few others had almost no problems. A couple guys needed a few tries, a little guidance, and a few rocks stacked to get them up.

Here is a video of 1slowX making his way up only to get stuck again, he did make all the way up eventually.

We were really close to the top of Hollister so we thought it would be a good place to have lunch. The weather was perfect and skies were clear. Great views from the top. It was nice to get to meet a few people too. I went around and snapped some pictures.

After lunch we decided tp lay around a bit at the new obstacle course. Seems like a good place to try out your rig for the first time, or to learn the ropes.

Someone was enjoying the mud.

After playing around a bit, it was time for the Jungle trail. Zach led the way and this time we made it through with no problems at all. Just a quick, easy run through.

Fyrftr was putting on a good show for us in the back of the group with his super clean dark red XJ.

So then we decided to run the the bitch trail. Started off ok with no problems until we got to the split. This section has had 's number for quite a few years. Farmer Matt got stuck here, NickAngus got stuck here, and this year was no different.

Ed, was trying to pull his buddy out of the hole he fell into and his rig stalled. He tried to start it and all of a sudden smoke started pouring out from under his hood and from under the jeep. He opend the hood and there were flames coming from near the firewall (go figure). Without even thinking me, Ed, and I can't rmember who else started blowing out the fire. It actually worked?!? Now I have to Zach some credit here for being the only to think of pulling the negative battery cable. We were all standing around trying to get a plan together to get him out and we noticed the smoke from inder his jeep was getting worse. I looked under and found flames coming from something near the exhaust and floor pan area. I yelled for a fire extenguisher and nobody close by had one. Someone threw me a bottle of water and I used it to put out the flames. Someone from further back in the group had a fire extinguisher and gave it to us. Right about that time we noticed the smoke was getting worse again, I looked under and some some burning embers of some kind. I emptied the extinguisher on it and finally got the fire all the way out. I haven't had one for some time now, but I will get one before my next run for sure.

I winched ed's XJ back a few feet until it was semi level and we could figure out what was going on. After some looking around Ed finally found the problem. The winch power cable he ran got pinched between the frame and the alternator and was grounding out. That melted his body to engine ground strap and started the fire near the engine. I never crawled under but apparently the fire underneath was caused by some oil from a leaking seal. We were lucky that the engine started right up and he drove out.

So thanks again for everyone who came out. The next official Hollister run will be in November for the 2nd annual Sierra Chapter Toy Drive November 7th.

So did you drive the Right line down in the rut under the tree at the split off, or take the Left line and drive around the tree and fall in?

SplitoffLine.jpg

Did Ed keep going or turn around?
The next split off to the right was where the trail really got ugly for us earlyer in the day, I drove on three wheels as the top of my cage was into the mud in 2 different spots.
