my xj camping trailer

BAD ASS!!

here we go

cammocamper_004.jpg

also has solar fan in roof to keep it cool in summer and a pop top sky light
and has a jeep tent that goes off the back door

Do you have any pics of the insides?

How do you know? Have you been anywhere? Don't believe all the "Rah, Rah! We're number one!" propaganda. There are cool places outside of where you are.

Dude, he's proly never been off his couch:flame:

Pretty cool over here in the CZ:cool:

Oh and I'd love to see some pics of what the new owner has done with the interior!

I love the camo paint job, very cool. Seems like the best use for a trail-worn XJ, most of them get crushed or cut-up and tossed. There is only so much you can do with a worn-out unibody rig, a camp trailer is a fine end to a cool XJ's journey.

bobdog,

you don't have the post count to open your mouth about ANYTHING negative, much less to criticize someone for cutting up a vehicle (which the owner and purchaser decided was no longer useful). ESPECIALLY since you are not privy to the circumstances dictating why it was junk.

back off, shut up, and sit here on your free membership realizing that you have no rights to criticize anyone.

(BTW I'm sorry for the elitest attitude, but this guy is really on my nerves)

Dude...read the posting rules and never saw a posting number qualifier (freedom of speech after x# of posts). Its a Forum which means all views and opinions are acceptable unless you can show me where the 1st. amendment was recently canceled. this forum accepts non paying members (users).

On Expedition Portal.....Sven states that if he had been returning to the states he would have kept it and driven it for quite some time. Surely such a rig could have seen great use if it was trailered to events if it couldn't be registered on road. the rig was in good shape just not able to pass Germanys extreme roadworthy certifications.

Further I have traveled in several countries and most of the states. I hold 2 passports...one being the USA (dual national). I chose to be an American rather then simply being born one and I am damned proud of it!!!
I feel I can trash or put down any country I want just like others do to us.

At this point I still feel a great Jeep was reduced to a tin can w/ a bed in it and w/ not much imagination at that. I personally never have wanted to pull a camp trailer because beyond the fact I would have to pull it, I would have to return to it after a great run rather then camping at the great place I just got to. I would also hope it was till there w/ everything in it.

To "elitest attitude" I think maybe "rightous" would be a good addition.
As for your 'nerves' _ too bad.... its America. There have been others who have agreed w/ me.

I don't think its the post count that matters. I agree though he's barking up the wrong tree in this thread.

oh, big deal. the guy bought a jeep. he had a cool idea of what to do with it. he made it into a kickass trailer. so what if it was in a magazine? doesn't mean it would be difficult to replicate it with another...if you're that upset that this jeep was "reduced" to its current state, fine. go buy a $500 stocker, throw a couple grand at it and boom, there you go. you are correct about being able to state an opinion, that's your right....but now you're just whining. let it be, and like i said if you're really that upset about the current state of this jeep, go build your own and let this guy enjoy his unique creation.

OK I'll let it go...as for the 500 frogskin stocker...already done that (more then a couple grand tho)
Been fun boys....I always quit when someone gives me a good response.....

wow. I dispersed a situation? *pats self on back* :D

 happy wheeling to all, and to all a good thread

You know, I didn't really even MEAN that post count has anything to do with it.

The underlying context of my statement is that we don't want to listen to someone who we don't know well enough to base an opinion on your judgemental skills of another person's builds and/or ideas, because you have not been actively involved to a point where we even know you or your background.

So, to me, you are basing your ignorant statements on information which you don't have any first-hand experience with and are simply resenting that a junk cherokee was not revived. Apparently, the xj in question used to have some sort of glory??? at least that's my take on your opinion.

In the end, it's just a cherokee. no amount of modifying makes a cherokee priceless. they're not rare, and they're not a completely rebuildable vehicle (such as a framed vehicle). you can't put a new body on your old frame and keep it registered under the old registration (there are ways around this, however illegal they may be). a minimal amount of bolt-on, replaceable body parts. it's a throw-away vehicle. when it's on that verge of good or bad, you cut your losses.

end of story you don't have any right to cut down on this guy for a terrific project. maybe it's not your bag. you don't have to be a dick about it.

AND another side-point. your attitude towards other countries is EXACTLY what gives other countries their attitudes towards us.

So here:

We cut this clean titled running XJ up because we wanted to practice for my chop top + we were bored with a sawzalll. I was our choice, a few parts were salvaged (not many), then we took it to scrap and got our $80, and called it done. Totally with it! My XJ turned out better because of it.

Personally I like the XJ trailer. I would never spend the time doing that, but I still like that someone did.
Bob crawl back under your rock, or members around here will put you there.

"actively involved" I think I am more then 'involved', not like your count is way up there dude. I also dislike the word ignorant....very close to the non PC word retard, how would you like me to refer to you. I have also read and watched everything about the xxxpedition rig and I very much admire not only their adventures but the build of the XJ, not to mention the new build, which is constantly being stonewalled by Euro. certifications. I know quite a bit about expedition style builds, thats why I so admire Overland XJ (buy ya a 'good' Scotch if we ever meet!:shhh:) I never called anyone stupid or ignorant, I did refer to their bad taste and lack of esthetic ( http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/esthetic )
And to this end I still think a sheep herders trailer is just that. I have seen many decent trailer builds but to give him a 3 thumbs up for a very ordinary thing is a bit much.

Cool... time for a group hug.

:kissyou:
There are tens of thousands grade A XJs out there maybe we should just put a nickle deposit on em.....If you had to chop a car to practice a chop, so be it....but my advice is get a MJ cut the back off the cab so you can have a slider window & a bulk head, mate to XJ, short the MJ bed to match wheel base (nice time to decide wheel base huh?), O hey you get a tail gate w/ that and a floor to the bed and tail lights.....OOOO....cool. wow might want to practice that.
Won't be buying you a beer if we meet (probably would if truth be said...yellow beer tho)
To 5sp_XJ I'm sorry....I said I'd stop...I apologize....good Micro Brew for you my friend and more then one...Hope to get out your way next year.:sunshine:
