My WJ Steering and horrible flex

Lowrange, Maybe I missed it but I didn't see you welding the .25" spacers on the knuckles ?? For proper Balljoint-UJoint alignment.

They're there. I had to get a friend to weld those for me since he was welding on cast.

I took it out today and crawled over a lil pile of dirt at a friends shop. It performed well and flexed more like I thought it should... I ripped the passenger side flare off as well as the fender support brace up front. I'll be pulling out the sawzall tomorrow to trim the fronts of the fenders. Is this flex a little more acceptable? (See the fender support brace hanging from the bumper above the passenger side? lol)

It was coming off anyways! I believe the rear flex is limited by the shackles hitting the frame. I forgot to look and see what was limiting the front. I'm thinking the brake lines are gunna suffer!

So you guys think I should take out 1 or 2 leafs from the rear and go to the next shackle notch? Or just drive it and let it break in?

Take em out... if you dont like it put em back in.

the flex looks better, but your still not putting a huge load on it. Try getting the front tire up and the opposite side rear up. This will put more pressure and possibly a tire off the ground to to really see how it flexes. Also when playing around, check bumps stops, brake lines and shock lengths. Your shocks could be your limiting factor on your flexing.

;) I"m wondering about turning my shackles around and taking a lil metal off of them... I konw that would weaken them but it only needs a little more clearance... the springs are already flat when they hit... The shackle don't need to go any farther. AND Since the springs are completely flat when I flex means that It's not gunna do me much good to remove a leaf...Right? I'm thinking it may make it easier to flex but I don't want the spring to overflex up do I? BUT at the same rate if I took out a spring and moved down to the next notch I would have more droop.

How long have you had the leaves on your rig? Most will settle down and ride better after some trail time. Another trick is to throw a couple of hundred pounds of water softener salt in the back for week or so to help settle the rear. Worked well for my RE leaf pack.

With those 10" wheels and 3.75 BS, you'll need to trim alot to allow your rig to flex to it's max capability........how much do you need?

Meh I don't konw how much I need yet... It's a trail virgin. I'll find out next weekend. I Chopped some of the fender off just a lil bit ago. I found that I have a set of SS Brake lines that are about 3Inchs longer than the ones on it now so hopefully those won't be the problem. I've got a set of 15x8s that will be goin on there soon.

Its looking good lowrange2, and a long time coming.

That flex looks like about what I would expect. Get a johnny joint at one end of each control arm and you'll get a little more - but once the coil starts to unload more droop doesnt really do you any good.

I have mine setup to where my shock is max'd right as the coil unloads - i can just barely squeeze a finger over it. When I hit my bumpstops the top of my 35's disappear into the wheel well. I'm using the full travel of 12" bilstien 7100 shortbody's.

Sweet. I'm gettin there... I ordered 2 johnny joints and 2 weldin bungs to make my uppers adjustable... As soon as I can I'll order another set of joints to put on the bottom.

damn... you actually have a jeep....

Lookin good Andy...

I;m just lacking essential parts

Damn... your over 200 posts ahead of me.

well if my deal goes thru, looks like im goin to get my setup tomorrow, and since mines a 2000 that hp will be nice. My bro inlaw is selling his 97 grand limited for $1800. Dumb nice jeep, I almost have him talked out of his disks before he sells it. $50 bucks.
