My wife is awesome.

I had to get the emmisions inspection done and pick up a few parts for my wife's Jeep today, and since I am unemployed she drove my Jeep to work while I used hers to do the errands.

So I get a call around 11am this morning from her asking if it was ok for her to 'use' my Jeep for a small work related project. She is a Civil Engineer for the Center for Disease Control (CDC). Today she and a few co-workers had to go out in the field and take a look at a broken/collapsed sewer line at one of the CDC's facilities.

They apparently use Kawasaki Mules for treks like this, as its usually out in the woods or fields, etc. Well.... they got the 4X4 Mule stuck in some deep mud. Noone else had any easy ways of getting the Mule out without a small act of congress so she volunteers her abiltities and my Jeep to get it 'unstuck'.

She usually wheels with me most of the time, and is quite familiar with the winch operations, and how to properly rig straps, shackles etc. She is often the one doing this since I am usually driving the jeep or stuck inside due to mud or whatever reasons.

Using 4-Low she got to the place where the Mule was (which apparently was a very muddy course as evident by the coating still on my Jeep...), unspooled the winch, hooked a strap to the Mule, connected the two with a shakle... and winched it out.

Not a huge feat for many on here, but I thought it was awesome and im proud of her! She says she gained mucho co-worker respect points because of it, which goes a long way in an industry dominated by middle aged white guys. :D

My wife rocks!

This is the only picture they took while doing the recovery:

Haha thats awesome, my wife would not have a clue, then again I would have never made a 4.2 GPA in nursing school and earned a degree in nursing at age 36 all while raising 3 boys either. We both have our talents, I fix things...she fixes people.

The ladies are amazing arent they!

That's pretty cool. Your woman "schooled" them on the finer points of vehicle recovery. Awesome.

My wife is good at the wheeling stuff. She's even helped me install lockers in my old Scout. She's also helped look up solutions to problems on NAXJA while I've been outside in the shop, relaying the info to me. She's good with kids too since she teaches.

SWEET! She's a keeper!

The only thing you forgot to teach her is the fee. At least a case of good beer for a vehicle extraction.

That's awsome! It's important that as the rigs get built the wives are included. When I'm working on it outside she wants to help and she always asks me questions about what I'm doing and why. She really wants to learn.

Well, that's my story anyway. I guess it could be that she asks what I'm doing and why to see if she can justify the $$$ but....naaaaaaa.:looney:

That's a great story! I only met her once, for a couple minutes...and I could tell she was a keeper! You picked a good one.:viking:

stumpxj... i just found out your only running 3.07 gears? is that right??? with all the tech stuff you have in that rig and you havent regeared it yet?? just saw a video of you rippin a hill up spinning those tires like your were on a highway they were spinning so fast... lol and hilldweller made it up no problem in 4.56's :D lol

Im running 3.55's right now. I have (via Andy) a spare front axle that is re-geared, but not the rear yet. My tires were barely spinning even though I had it to the floor. I have the Rubicon transfer case, and the 4:1 was killing me going up that hill. Would have been even worse with 4.56's. Low gears are no fun for hill climbs.

What you didnt see was the first 9 times (literally) Bill tried to go up, nor the weekend before where he didnt make it up there at all. Once he aired down to 15psi, he was able to make it up. I went up it with 36 psi. and it had a nice coating of slick stuff since I was first up it. :D It took me 8-9 tries myself.

But with 4.56s you might have been able to leave it in high range and get enough wheel speed to make it up. That's just a thought though, the 4.0 might not have enough umph to do that. Do you have the bypass switch to hold it in 1st gear instead of allowing it to shift to 2nd?

I dont think its got the nuts in 4hi, even with the gears. I tried it and it fell on its face, not even close.

1st gear with 4:1 is useless on a slick hill like that. I could floor it and it would be maxed out on wheel speed in about 4 feet. What I needed was to be able to start off and stay in 2nd. I dont have the bypass switch, although I want look into it. If you look at that video, you can hear it starting off in 1st, then shifting right as I start going up the hill which kind of kills the momentum. Starting off in second would have been ideal on that situation, or maybe even 3rd gear with the 4.56's.

Who makes a system that will allow me to do that?

Dont buy it. The guy is unreliable about gettting them done. Last I heard he was quiting them. DO some research and build one. The aw4 shift with the computer so all you have to do is wire up switches to engage what ever gear you want.

Yeah, I thought I read that, just wasnt sure if anyone else was making one. Guess I get to break out that OEM manual I just bought and figure out what does what....
